goalie13
This deal only means something if they are able to sign him. I guess this means they aren't going to try and re-sign Nabokov.
TheRussianRocket.
Islanders with highway robbery here. Halak is a solid tender, can make the Isles a contender if he signs there.
BlueLemming
Doesn't Nabokov still have a year left or am I thinking of Backstrom?
elvis15
Interesting. Whether they can sign him is another issue, but they've certainly needed to improve their goaltending for some time. This deal only means something if they are able to sign him. I guess this means they aren't going to try and re-sign Nabokov. And if the conditional pick doesn't turn into a 1st or something if they do sign him. Doesn't Nabokov still have a year left or am I thinking of Backstrom? UFA this summer. He's in that second tier of goalies that a team might go after for more support than just any old backup that have an existing starter.
nuckin_futz
No one ever wants to sign with the Islanders. Erhoff, Vanek, now you can probably add Halak.
Smiley2051
@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Halak's agent Allan Walsh and the Isles have already had a brief conversation about wanting to get a contract done. Mutual interest there..
TheRussianRocket.
If he signs with Isles, I believe it will be around $4-$4.5 mill for 3-5 years.

Squeak
Islanders with highway robbery here. Halak is a solid tender, can make the Isles a contender if he signs there. That is generally the going rate for pending UFA rights
Monty
This signing/non-signing is pretty key in the Islanders deciding whether they are going to keep this years draft pick or forfit it to the Sabres. If they can't improve goaltending right now, then I would think they forfit to the Sabres.
c00kies
15 years and 67.5 million? I don't know how Snow can get it done now with 8 years being the max for re-signings.
Master Mind
Halak traded 3 times in one season. Pretty surprising considering he's a good goalie. I thought the caps would've signed him, I'm also surprised Halak was traded since caps don't have a GM. Hopefully Halak signs with the Isles so that they have a shot at the playoffs next year. TheRussianRocket.
That is generally the going rate for pending UFA rights Yes, I know that lol. I'm just saying it's a steal of a price if they get him to sign. Practically a free top 15/20 goalie in the league. If he doesn't, they can trade away his rights to make up for the pick but as of now, low risk high reward move.
elvis15
No one ever wants to sign with the Islanders. Erhoff, Vanek, now you can probably add Halak. But then there was Lubo and Nabby that said they wouldn't sign with the Isles originally and yet changed their tune.
Bang Bang Boogie
He wasn't that great for Washington but he's still a very solid goalie. The Islanders may have gotten a steal here.

Salter
Wait...so teams that aren't in the playoffs can trade? I've seen it before but I never really understood the rules exactly.
