Dale Weise: The reason Tort's is gone?

Last night Dale Weise played 11 minutes, scoring one goal and one assist against Boston, on the 4th line. In the T Bay series he scored a game winning goal on the 4th line.

Last season Tort's was never able to establish a 4th line and in that effort

rarely played his 4th more than 5 minutes. Weise is the obvious example of that

fallout. To me that is all about coaching. You do not solve a 4th line problem by playing the Twins more and have them PKing. Tort's was all about 'respect' but

his inability to create a role for his 4th line was in fact disrespecting their

role and not acknowledging the reality that serious playoff teams have to have 4 functioning lines.

Indirectly - yes.

Torts didn't play his 4th line enough because he didn't trust them as much as his top players, so he played the twins and Kesler 20+ minutes a night which was fine at the start of the season but resulted in them burning out in the 2nd half so much so that they were easily injured and produced at the rate of a 2nd or 3rd line player on most other teams.

Torts never liked him in NY, wanted him gone. Never liked this trade unlike most of CDC.

Weise was actually a free pick up on the waiver wire. :)

Also, I think Weise actually had/have the potential to develop into a decent third liner and it's finally showing with Montreal. Weise actually had some pretty respectable numbers back in the American league scoring 50 pts. in 73 games his second year and 38 pts. in 47 games for his third year.

But no, there is absolutely no correlation between Dale Weise excelling in Montreal and the firing of Torts. Weise was traded before he was fired. Only possible correlation would be something like what the first poster said about Weise not being deployed enough, which lead to a ridiculous amount of ice time for our top players.

I think they were referring to the Weise for Diaz trade that sent Dale from Vancouver to Montreal.

No, I think they were referring to Torts being the coach when Weise was put on waivers, and then incorrectly equating that to Torts hating him. I've heard the argument before, but when we got him off waivers, I remember a comment from the Rangers they didn't want to put him down but it was a numbers game with better players ahead of him.

Yeah, watch him feline out to Shawn Thornton again and cry like a wuss. I dont care what he does, he's the biggest feline Ive ever seen. Much rather have some blockhead on the fourth who isnt a FREAKING WUSS

You seem to really like cats. :sadno:

But as I said in the Good Job Dale Weise thread posted just before this one:

I liked Weise while he was here, but there were too many nights where he wasn't that effective. He sure had nights like that for us as well though, where he'd put in a nice goal, but then he wouldn't forecheck, hit or generally anything much all that well the next several games.

This isn't really all on Torts either (as the thread created just after this one suggests) since Weise had the same consistency problems under AV to some extent. How many times did we hear this: "Weise is having a strong game tonight, what's wrong that he can't figure this out other nights?"

I wouldn't have minded keeping him, even over Sestito actually, but Weise was getting frustrated with how he was used at times this past year. Part of that falls to Torts I guess, but Weise wasn't innocent in his play either.

Sort of. It's not specifically dale wiese but it's evidence that you need 4 lines to win. Torts tried to run a system with 2 lines, sometimes a third, and rarely a 4th. Our 4th line was playing 4-5 min a game. This isn't NHL 14, it doesn't work that way. You need all 19 active players to play a significant role. He wondered why all our top guys were getting hurt, maybe it was because you played them 22 minutes a night. The Sedins were playing their best hockey when they were playing about 18 minutes a night. What it also does is focus in on the star players. If a team figures out how to shut down your star players, well, playing them 22 minutes a night just means they can easily focus on them more. You have to spread it out the lineup. Each line brings a different kind of attack and it's important use them all. It keeps other teams on their feet and makes our team far less predictable.

The only thing I didn't understand about Torts and the 4th line dilemma was if he had such a problem with those players why didn't he address it with the front office and they correct it? It isn't exactly like 4th line players are expensive or hard buys. Seemed like an easy fix problem everyone ignored.

If all goes well we won't have room for guys like Weise, Dalpe, or the numerous other momentum killers we've had on our 4th line. In torts defence, every time our 4th line touched the ice they got dominated against anyone remotely resembling a winning team.
