I like Sci-Fi and related movies... but sometimes I have problems to understand some things because normaly a sci-fi movie/series/universe should show something from the future right? but sometimes I have questions. probably also you have. for example: 1) WHY PEOPLE IN STAR-WARS ARE SO WELL DRESSED? EVEN IN COMBATS? LIKE, A JEDI FIGHTING A SITH LORD AND BOTH ARE USING FANCY ITALIAN CLOTHES. IS THAT A COMBAT OR A "WHO IS BETTER DRESSED?" FIGHT? -really. if you see on reality soldiers use a regular uniform and even the elite units use a clothe designed to be light and easy to dress. because it´s cheap and fancy clothes aren´t designed for close combat fighting... 2) IF YODA IS SO BADASS WHY HE´S NOT THE HERO OF STAR-WARS SAGA? 3) WHY SO FEW WOMEN IN STAR-WARS SAGA? LIKE, THE ENTIRE GALAXY BUT LESS THAN 100 WOMEN?! MAN THINGS MUST BE PRETTY BORING WHEN THEY´RE NOT FIGHTING... 4) WHY THE FIGHTERS IN STAR-WARS ALWAYS LOOK LIKE A PLANE FROM THE USAF/US NAVY FROM 1980S? -see the X-Wing? it´s "open wing" device looks similar to the F-14 device. if they´re in the future I would guess a fighter would be equiped with some heavy/smart stealth capability... 5) WHY FIGHTERS IN STAR-WARS HAVE SO MANY WINGS? MANY OF THEM ARE NEVER USED INSIDE AN ATMOSPHERE AND REENTRY CAPACITIES. SO WHY WINGS ON SPACE? 6) IF THE EMBIRE IS SO BAD WHY NOT JUST KILL THEM ALL INSTEAD PUT THEM IN JAIL AND THEM TO COURTHOUSE? 7) WHY WE NEVER SEE NUKES IN SCI-FI? -really. with the amount of battles and angry people. if it was on real life nukes would be used a long time ago... -in Sci-Fi we see lasers, photon torpedoes, drones, inteligent robots. well, everything. but no nukes... 8) WHY THE HERO ALWAYS HAVE A GIRLFRIEND? WHY NOT A SOLITARY HERO WHO DOESN´T WANT BE IN A RELATIONSHIP? -I think it would be cool. a hero that is alone by choice... 9) WHY THE BAD GUYS HAVE MUCH BETTER STORIES THAN THE GOOD GUY? 10) IF WOLVERINE IS CANADIAN WHY WE NEVER SAW HIM SUPPORTING A CANADIAN HOCKEY TEAM? 11) IN STAR-TREK WHY THE SHIPS ALWAYS HAVE "SS" IN FRONT OF THEIR NAMES? IF IT´S A FEDERATION SO EARTH-SHIPS SHOULD HAVE THEIR NAMES ACCORDING THE COUNTRY WHERE IT WAS MADE... -so if the ship was made in Russia it should have Russian names, if the Ship was made in Japan so it should have Japanese names etc... 12) WHY THE VILLAINS/BAD GUYS IN "STAR TREK" AND "STAR-WARS" ARE ALWAYS HUMANOIDS? THEY LOOK LIKE HUMANS, THEY SPEAK LIKE HUMANS AND FOR AN AMAZING COINCIDENCE ALL OF THEM SPEAK ENGLISH... -the only situation where the villain wasn´t humanoid was in "Gundam 00 the movie" where the villain was a mettalic living creature... 13) IN STAR-TREK SHIPS ARE TERRIBILY HUGE BUT THEY DON´T HAVE A FIRE-POWER COMPARED TO IT´S SIZE. IF THE SHIP IS DESIGNED TO EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE WOULD NOT BE A GOOD IDEA HAVE ALL TYPES OF WEAPONS IN CASE A SUPER-VILLAIN COMES TO A FIGHT? -see on our reality. big ships have big fire-power to attack... 14) AGAIN IN STAR-TREK IF THE SHIPS ARE SO BIG WHY THE SHIPS DON´T HAVE FIGHTERS ON IT? WHY NOT SIMPLY GO WHERE THE VILLAIN IS AND SHOOT HIM IN THE FACE? 20) IN SCI-FI WE ALWAYS SEE AMERICANS ONLY. LOOKS LIKE IN THE FUTURE THE ENTIRE GALAXY IS COMPOSED BY AMERICANS. NO RUSSIANS, NO CHINESE, NO EUROPEANS, NO LATINOS. JUST AMERICANS... THE HQ OF SOMETHING IS ALWAYS IN NEW-YORK, ALIENS ONLY ATTACK NEW-YORK, WASHINGTON AND LOS ANGELES. RUSSIA NOW IS MORE CAPITALIST THAN MANY COUNTRIES... 30) EVEN DURING A HUGE SCALE WAR WHY THE CITIES LOOK UNDAMAGED? Plus, as if anybody would care if a massive alien takeover were to occur in the middle of Alabama or whatever. Probably a cultural norm to know tons of Alienese, or maybe its a requisite in Sci-Fi schools. 23) WHY THEY DON´T USE GUNS OR MACHINE GUNS? LASER WEAPONS ARE EXPENSIVE AND NEED A LOT OF ENERGY. A BULLET DOESN´T NEED THAT... -really. empires wasting money on laser weapons when a magine guy can kill the same guy on the same way but much cheaper... I've read somewhere that for the purpose of seriously hurting your enemies, bullets work much better than lasers. Lasers would probably cauterize the wound, whilst bullets would allow for bleeding out. Point for you 24) IF DARTH VADER IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE "ULTIMATE SITH WARRIOR" WHY THE EMPEROR NEED LUKE SKYWALKER? VADER IS THE ULTIMATE BAD GUY RIGHT? SO WOULDN´T BE MUCH MORE SIMPLE KILL LUKE SKYWALKER OR JUST NUKE THE ENTIRE TATTOINE? Why settle for a jedi with severed limbs, when you can have a newer one? 25) WHY THE COCKPIT OF THE MILLENIUM FALCON IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SHIP? THE FOWARD VIEW MUST BE TERRIBE BECAUSE ON THE LEFT SIDE THERE WILL BE THE ENTIRE SHIP BLOCKING THE VIEW. WOULDN´T BE BETTER IF THE COCKPIT WAS LOCATED ON THE CENTER OF THE SHIP? Another good point. Boy you're just on a roll aren't you?! 26) IN SCI-FI SHIPS CAN REACH THE LIGHTSPEED IN A SECOND MAKING IT VERY EASY BUT SHIPS CANNOT REENTRY ON EARTH´S ATMOSPHERE OR FLY NICELY IN ATMOSPHERE... SO IF THE SHIP ISN´T DESIGNED FOR ATMOSPHERE WHY CREWMEMBERS KEEP TRYING THIS? Dramatic effect. It's that whole "oh no will they make it?!" schtick 27) WHY JAPANESE ALWAYS HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF HUMANITY ON THEIR DIALOGUES BUT WHEN THEY FIGHT THEY LITERALY CUT EVERY PIECE OF THE ENEMY ON A BLOODY BATTLE? I'm not Japanese, so I can't say that I know what they're saying in their dialogue. But I bet you the people that deal with the subtitles make it sound better than it really does 28) IN SCI-FI WHY THE PRESIDENT OF USA IS ALWAYS WHITE AND ALWAYS REPUBLICAN? -Don´t they know about Barack Obama? Morgan Freeman, Deep Impact 29) WHEN A SCI-FI SHOWS RUSSIA THEY ALWAYS SHOW THEM AS A SOVIET STATE? RUSSIA NOW IS MORE CAPITALIST THAN MANY COUNTRIES... The writers of sci-fi grew up in the era in which Russia was still the Soviet Union 30) EVEN DURING A HUGE SCALE WAR WHY THE CITIES LOOK UNDAMAGED? POWEFULL WEAPONS CROSS THE ENTIRE GALAXY BUT SOMEHOW CITIES REMAIN UNBELIAVEBLE CALM... Because it costs money to make a new set. Picking apart Star Trek is not very hard. But with all the apparent flaws and loopholes in the original Star Trek you have to take into account one thing. One powerful thing that nullifies many of the many flaws..... The pure awesomeness of Capt. Jame T. Kirk. That trumps most of the WTF's on Star Trek. Having said that, I'll add one. With such a large ship hurling through space in and around the year 2265, why aren't there surveillance cameras installed? Whenever something happens somewhere in the ship, lets say a human looking, english talking alien has knocked out Scotty in the engine room, once intercom communication is lost, there is no other way to see what's happened except to physically go to the engine room. This also becomes a problem when yet another human looking, english talking alien blows past the one guard assigned to hold the prisoner and escapes to wander aboard the Enterprise. Link to comment

I would like to see something we can do in a reasonable future. for example: 1) Humanity colonising the solar system using a near-future tecnology... 2) the complications involving the colonisation. would be nice to imagine if the USA colony on Mars would be just like the USA from Earth.... 3) related with the previous one. a colony on another planet/moon would be considered part of the original nation (state/province) or an independent country? 4) how Earth would react when and if the human colonies declare independence? how earth would react if the colony on moon declare independence? 5) ok. war. considering a near-future tecnology how these wars would be? 6) there will be "space terrorists" in the future? things like this. isn´t hard but requires a well written script. avelanch Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Star trek shows the living quarters in nearly every episode, as well as relaxation places (the holodeck, 10 forward (bar) etc)., they have shown a bathroom (or someone coming out of a bathroom) on occasion, but they mostly don't show it because people don't want to see scotty taking a dump. Also, X-men isn't sci-fi. I'm not going to bother with most of the other stuff, but everyone speaks english because of the universal translators in star trek, and everything that was in star was happened a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. oh and the ships from earth start with USS because it stands for United Space Ship, not United States Ship, starfleet is a combined service, and there are no more nations, just a singular world government.
