nucklehead
http://canadians.org/content/e-news-may-7-2014 A 14-foot-tall fracking rig spilled fracking wastewater on the front lawn of Parliament Hill last week. The Council of Canadians brought the fictional "Frack Corp." rig to the Hill to raise awareness about the danger fracking poses to our water, air and health. "We organized this action to drive home to members of Parliament why Canadian and Indigenous communities are calling for a ban on fracking," said Emma Lui, water campaigner with the Council of Canadians. "Affected communities have been sounding the alarm on fracking for years because of the potential for water contamination, increases in greenhouse gases and health risks but their concerns have been ignored." drummer4now
Fracking is stupid and unnecessary.. How about we wait till the oil sands are dry or when natural gas supplies go down? before we ruin our water supply... I'm all for certain pipelines and ethical oil in Alberta, but I think this is unnecessary imo. I love how Sun News tries to promote it as a safe practice... They always discredit Fracking fluid as nothing when its a blend of toxic chemicals and water being pumped beneath the earth near fresh water supplies. Also it apparently ups the risk for earthquakes too.. http://www.canadiangeographic.ca/magazine/oct11/fracking.asp

Lmao, I agree with the water supply, but I don't think you understand how much oil is in the tar sands http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_oil_sands those are low end estimates too. The highest Estimate I heard from there was that if they could produce 5 million barrels a day, the reserves would have enough to keep extracting at that rate for 8000+ years. Don't believe what hippies, journalists and politicians in big city Canada tell you...cuz quite frankly they don't personally know fuck all about the oil sands. Apparently there are untapped natural gas deposits near the oil sands as well that don't require fracking to extract. I think if fracking were to be allowed the only places I wouldn't want it near is the BC coast because of the risk of earthquakes and the fact I live there lol.. I don't think there are any shale deposits here anyway? I heard rumours of Nanamio though.. Yeah I have no issues with the oil sands anymore.. People talk about the potential environmental damage they are causing, but I think we have excellent safety measures and protocols as oppose to other countries (Russia. Saudi Arabia, USA etc..) Plus the oil companies reps are on the line here as oppose to the USA where there known to be crap..

As far as I recall, shale is quite expensive and controversial to extract, but allegedly there is a huge deposit in a triangle shape between Vanderhoof, PG and Quesnel. It's been quite a while since I was involved in the industry. I'd imagine It would leave quite the Eco footprint. As for earthquakes and that, I can't comment either way as I'm not well read on the subject. I know cenovus and suncor hire environmental experts, geologists and try to do things as Eco friendly as possible. One of the deadliest things to the environment is smart-car munafacturing believe it or not(I've read it takes the cars lifetime to make up the damage it caused in the manufacturing process to build it) everybody having a cell phone, video games & unnecessary electronics can't be good either, with all the towers and demand on dams( but I can't complain...keeps me employed )
