The original 'Power Rangers' Credit: Saban Entertainment The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are set for a live action return to the big screen The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are returning to the big screen in a new live action film. Yes, Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced this morning that the Power Rangers franchise is going to be coming back to a theater near you in the not too distant future. The television series that started the multimedia franchise was launched more than 20 years ago, and has been running in some form continuously since that time. There have even already been two films produced, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" in 1995 and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" in 1997. According to the press release, "The new film franchise will re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world." There is no word in the press release about any timeline for the new film, nor how—or if—it will fit into existing Power Rangers mythology. The press release does discuss that the fact that there is already "a deep and detailed mythology" but not more than that. No mention is made in the press release of the classic theme to the original version of the series either. GoaltenderInterference
They better not mess this up.I think they did a terrible job "translating" Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (one of the best Sentai teams, imo) into Super MegaForce.I hope the villain is Lord Zedd and they make something similar to this:

Dazzle
Saban bought the franchise back in 2010 after selling it to Disney in 2001. With Marvel and Star Wars films being made under Disney's supervision as of late, one must wonder what a Disney-produced Power Rangers film would have looked like. This film will probably be designed to appeal to children... unless they choose Michael Bay to direct. I like Michael Bay's movies, but he wouldn't be a good fit. His movies usually are 'brainless', favoring action as opposed to constructing a storyline. This movie HAS to be about the characters and less about helicopters and explosions. The fighting scenes need to be included and they don't have to be ruined by gimmicks.
Where's Wellwood
I love how the asian chick is the yellow ranger and the black guy is the black ranger. Not the kind of thing you notice when you're a child watching, but it's so unintentionally funny now.

Not because of the acting which is admittedly terrible, but the yellow and pink ranger are hot and the nostalgia factor every episode when they morph into old rangers is amazing. Though I have no doubt that the Japanese did it better.

The acting is cheesy (as always) but you can see more of the older rangers teams (before Mighty Morphin'/Zyuranger).

Offensive Threat
I like Michael Bay's movies, but he wouldn't be a good fit. A fairly high percentage of his movies are terrible. Even the bigger over the top action movies are mostly god awful as action movies. 2 of the 3 tranformers movies sucked outright while the first one was "OK". Pearl Harbor was bad and Armageddon was even worse and Im a big Bruce Willis fan. A $140 million budget, a great cast and he made that piece of crap? Terrible. The worst part is it made a lot of money. Makes the moviegoing public look like a buncha idiots.

Michael Bay is awesome if you know what you're getting yourself into when watching one of his movies. Transformers, Transformers 3, Pain & Gain, Bad Boys, and Bad Boys 2 are some that I enjoyed. Not to mention the horror movies that he's produced Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Amityville Horror (2005), Friday the 13th (2009), and A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) are all pretty good horror movies. (These are his movies that I liked, not all of his horror or directed movies are listed). I haven't seen The Rock, Armageddon, or Pearl Harbour and the movies he directed which sucked were Transformers 2 and The Island.

To be fair, Pearl Harbor was made terrible with the love story and the casting wasn't that great. The action scenes were decent though and the attack on Pearl Harbor was said to be pretty accurate. Armageddon was pretty terrible for the same reason, but the action was okay. Bad Boys series was a little bit brainless once again, and the action was good. One of the more action-packed movies. IMDB seems to indicate that he had taken a bit of a break from directing by being executive producer for some titles; however, he's back to directing again... 2014/2015 titles that have yet to be released.
