[Potential trades] Finding a potential 1D man...

Recommended Posts

If Benning does what gillis could not which is find a number 1 high minute top pair dman... Who do you get that is young or has the potential? If he follows the boston model, bringing in Chara was their big first step years ago...

Do you trade for:

Sustr (TB)

Myers (BUF who struggled there; new start elsewhere? Bennings connections to buffalo?)

Hamilton (boston connection)

Gardiner (TOR - don't view him as a top dman)

Bfugylien (Winnipeg)

Weber (Nashville ; cost a fortune but BC boy)

Pouliot (potential trade bait in Pitts)

Someone else?

Your GM Benning (or whoever they hire)... Who do you pull the trigger on with the assets available?

Easiest way is to get one through the draft.

No point in trading for one because you have to give up your whole future.

Because it is so easy to just draft a true #1... True #1's don't even exist in each draft.

Rather just Pouliot, cheaper and could probably get some more than just Pouliot in a Kesler trade.

Sustr isn't a potential #1 dman, I'd love to have Dougie Hamilton or Myers aswell.

If Benning is GM we would have a better shot at Hamilton as he would know what Boston is looking for in terms of trade value to improve the team....we might not have what they need though.

What does Boston have to improve on?

If we hire Benning and he's able to pry Hamilton out of Boston at a reasonable price that would be amazing, and could allow us to trade up and take Reinhart.

If I had it my way we'd move up for Ekblad, then move one of our left side D for Dimitry Orlov. I think Orlov and Gardiner have the same offensive ceiling, but Orlov kills people and doesn't have the inflated "Leaf" value.

Can't argue with that... And the more I think about it they will more than likely groom him to become Characters 2.0 Big Z is 37, with the way he's looking probably still has 5 years left to influence Hamilton

I feel as though a new coach (Trotz) might be able to savalge Edler and turn him into a top-10 NHL defenceman, but we really need a top-5 if not top-3 defenceman if we ever want to contend in the playoffs.

Victor Hedman was an absolute stud this season, and if Tampa want to shake up their defence core then we should try and grab him by throwing some of our defencemen their way.

Exactly. Boston has a lot of veteran defenders who are not getting any younger.

If anything the Bruins will try to move one or two veteran defenseman like Seidenberg and/or Mcquaid and look for forward prospects/picks in return. Boston has had young defenseman like Hamilton, Krug, Bartkowski and Miller who all had good years. On top of that they have many blue line prospects like Morrow in the wings.

Great future at the back end for Boston right now.

The Bruins blue-line will bleed to death when Chara retires.
