Henrik Lundqvist Squirts Water In Sidney Crosby’s Face

Recommended Posts

First Thornton, and now King Henrik squirting water into other's faces...

On the same day Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was fined for squirting Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban with water during Saturday night’s Game 5 at TD Garden, another incident involving a water bottle occurred in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. At the end of the second period in Game 6 of the Penguins-Rangers series, New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist squirted Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby in the face as he was skating to the bench. Crosby was in the middle of a scrum between several players that began when he speared Rangers forward Dominic Moore about a minute earlier. Watch Lundqvist empty his water bottle in the video below and GIF below.

This is a bit different from Thornton though. They're in a scrum after the whistle, while Thornton was actually interfering with the play from the bench. I wouldn't be surprised if the league let this one go.

I agree, but I'm assume he got that idea from Thornton to squirt the water bottle, but not the dumb way..

Precisely. After the whistle is fundamentally much different than during the play.

I like others feel it's fundamentally different a situation during play & from the bench vs. after the whistle and during a scrum. The latter case people are often doing several penalty-worthy actions and it's often ignored / chalked up to playoff gamesmanship by the refs. During play and from the bench it's never expected and as far as I've seen rarely if ever called by the refs. Yet, it has impact on the active play potentially.

Not to mention Thornton is pretty much the definition of a goon / repeat offender, he scored all of ~10pts/season most of his career and he exists mainly to be a jerk & bully people. Lundqvist is considered an elite goaltending talent and doesn't have the reputation for this sort of thing. In this case it's less serious than Thornton did + it's Lundqvist who isn't known to be dirty. So I think maybe he deserved an unsportsmanslike, but other than that, meh.

When I first looked at the thread on the homepage, all I could see was "Henrik Lundqvist squirts"...

Anyway I feel like this is just another playoff trend or whatever you want to call it.

Whether it's during the play or after the whistle it still shouldn't be in the game imo.

That goes for stuff like diving, biting, pulling hair, cheap shots, spearing, sacking (lucic).

Not nearly as bad as how Thornton did it. What I still can't figure out is if it was Martin or Girardi who pushed Crosby over the pile.

All of the above could apply to Lucic.

It's definitely a trend this playoffs. The thing is, it's like the least of infractions of all the recent ones. Spearing the groin? mostly ignored the first couple times. Guy who had one of the stiffest suspensions in NHL history & is known to be dirty as heck? Fined for water on a play that was still active. At some point you need to draw the line on what you call--I agree it's a penalty, but yeah, it wasn't caught at the time.

Many players without a history have been hacking and slashing away this postseason, Lundqvist mildly trolling Crosby with a little water spray after the play is long dead is a jerk move but I don't think that important. When hundreds of indiscretions are being excused during the gamesmanship of the postseason, I hardly think Lundqvist is a major or deserving target of discipline. I guess one could argue ALL these things should be called... but that's another story.

Crosby has been acting like a bloody baby in these playoffs, and last night was the worst I've ever seen from him.

Especially the little hacks, cross-checks and elbows by him during and after the play that went undetected.

What bothered me the most was that after each incident he would just skate away as if nothing had happened, leaving other star players like Letang to risk injury to fight his battles.

That little water squirted during a commercial break by Lundqvuist was well deserved and totally different than Thorntons squirt during the play.

Should be a fine. Doesn't matter if it's "just water" as this schoolroom crap is getting silly. We're getting back into Avery territory who never forgot to skate without his clown shoes on.

There are rules to keep players sportsmanlike. Use them.

Thank you, King Henrik. Crosby is the biggest douche I've seen in the playoffs. He can't score and he runs around like he's invincible. I lost all respect for him when he "fought" Giroux in the playoffs. Giroux's hands were grabbed by the official who was trying to break up the fight and Crosby was still punching. Somebody needs to steamroll him.

It is a matter of when, not if, he gets another concussion .. one that could end his career .. it just takes once, and it WILL happen if he keeps looking for trouble.

Omg yes. Letang and Kunitz fights his battles for him. He looks back, sees that there's a scrum and he just skates away. At least pretend to be fighting your own battles...

He acts as if they get paid to protect him

While I completely agree with you, as a goalie that has been sprayed with snow many times, I found this quite amusing.

So in this thread it doesn't matter if something happens on the ice as opposed to off the ice but in the other thread...

Nothing bad about it, just childish. Crosby shouldn't of speared Moore, that's how all of this started, though I don't consider the spear as bad as Perry's or Lucic's as Moore should have expected that given he tried to tie up Crosby's stick between his legs.

not as bad why because hes crosby? that was a hard shot he gave him if you want to get your stick free you pull down and away not up and in.... and then he starts throwing cross checks in the scrum to a player who is already down...
