(Proposal) Van-Fla, Van-Ott

Recommended Posts

Hire Jim Bennings as GM

Hire Todd Mclellan as HC (If fired) or John Stevens from LA

Vancouver: D Chris Tanev, C Brendan Gaunce and the 6th Overall pick

Florida: The 1st Overall pick

-Florida is actively shopping their 1st. Van and Fla have a good relationship. Florida gets a great top 4 shutdown d-man and a projected 2nd or 3rd line C as well as the 6th overall pick so they can draft LW Nikolaj Ehlers (Who Tallon is very high on apparently). This would greatly help their PK and team defense.

Vancouver: D Alex Edler, RW Niklas Jensen and a 2015 2nd round draft pick

Ottawa: C Jason Spezza and D Patrick Weircioch

-Looks like Spezza will be traded this summer. Edler had great chemistry with Karlsson during the Olympics, reuniting that pairing would give them a great defense. We may need to add more.

Buyout LW David Booth

Draft C Sam Reinhart 1st overall

Signings

C Mike Santorelli 2 years @ 2mill per

RW Zack Kassian 2 years @ 1.5mill per

C Zac Dalpe 1 year @ 800 000

D Clayton Stoner 2 years @ 900 000 per

D Yannick Weber 1 year @ 800 000

Daniel Sedin-Henrik Sedin-Zack Kassian

Alex Burrows-Jason Spezza-Ryan Kesler

Chris Higgins-Shawn Matthias-Mike Santorelli

Tom Sestito-Brad Richardson-Zac Dalpe

Colton Gillies

Dan Hamhuis-Kevin Bieksa

Jason Garrison-Frank Corrado

Ryan Stanton-Patrick Weircioch

Yannick Weber-Clayton Stoner

Eddie Lack-Jacob Markstrom

We have roughly 7mill in cap space. We can sign a veteran goaltender like Jonas Hiller if we want to, or get a vet backup for Lack.

Looks like a cup contender to me if everybody shows up.

I like this, overall. Value is commensurate. Have you ommitted/forgotten Jannik? Perhaps add him to the Ott package & get one of their fwd prospects..I'd like a bit more future back from Ott(they're loaded, with AHL/prospects).

I like that this is flexible. Twins play poorly/2nd line injuries/whatever..we can still tank for a good pick in 2015; & deal Kesler(at deadline, to quickly reshuffle with younger pieces). But as you've suggested, the horses might be here for a turnaround.

edit-forgot to add, don't believe Booth buyout is necc. Burrows MIGHT make more sense? Next summer that's NINE MILL of extra cap to dangle with(Booth/Burrows off books)

If we're drafting first overall we're getting Ekblad. Especially with Tanev and Edler gone.

Also, that team's not a competitor with that defense.

How bout if we draft Ekblad our defense looks like this

Dan Hamhuis-Aaron Ekblad

Jason Garrison-Kevin Bieksa

Ryan Stanton-Patrick Weircioch

Clayton Stoner-Yannick Weber

Better?

And ya I just for got amount Hansen. Maybe add him in the Florida trade and get another pick back.

I like the Spezza trade and I love the idea of having Higgins, Santorelli, Hansen, Richardson, Matthais all in the bottom 6 (I personally would be inclined to move Burrows to the 3rd line and pick up a 2nd line UFA.)

That leaves no need to play Dalpe/Sestito every night, and that is a good thing.

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
UFA - Spezza - Kesler
Higgins - Santorelli - Burrows
Matthais - Richardson - Hansen

Heatley, Cammy, Moulsen, Jokinen, Michalek, even Raymond could be LWer's we wouldn't have to break the bank for. Hell two of the guys have played with Spezz at some point.
-----------------

As for trade 1, I just don't like it. I understand the appeal of getting a "potential top line center" or "franchise D man" but at what cost? One of our best prospects, a defenseman who has been steadily getting more minutes and harder QoC each year and excelling, AND a pick that could land us a top 5 guy that falls to us?

I just don't like that risk. I look at a guy like Weber who is rotting away a career in Nashville because his supporting cast sucks, By the time Reinhart/Eckblad will be making a big impact on the team, Hank, Dank, Kes, Burr, Juice, Hammer, Garrison, and Higgins will all be either A. retired B. over the hill or C. gone. That player will then be left unsupported in their role and that is even IF the player reaches his potential.

So I would rather have Tanev playing huge defensive minutes, Gaunce showing us what he's got in the AHL, and one of the many players I like that will go around pick 6.

That said I like the idea of that D lineup, but adding Tanev makes all the difference.

Hamhuis - Tanev
Garrison - Bieksa
Any 4 of Weircioch, Stoner, Corrado, Stanton, Weber

Updated Idea

Vancouver: D Alex Edler, RW Niklas Jensen or C Brendan Gaunce, 2014 2nd round draft pick (36th)

Ottawa: C Jason Spezza and D Patrick Weircioch

Vancouver: RW Jannik Hansen and the 6th overall pick

NYI: 5th overall pick

-Islanders need to make the playoffs next year so the pick they give to Buffalo wont be a top 10. Hansen helps with depth and overall defensive game.

Draft LW Michael Dal Colle or any other of the big 5 that falls to us.

Sign D Chris Tanev 4 years @ 3.5mill per

Daniel Sedin-Henrik Sedin-Zack Kassian

Alex Burrows-Jason Spezza-Ryan Kesler

Chris Higgins-Shawn Matthias-Mike Santorelli

Tom Sestito-Brad Richardson-Zac Dalpe

Colton Gillies

Dan Hamhuis-Chris Tanev

Jason Garrison-Patrick Weircioch

Ryan Stanton-Kevin Bieksa

Clayton Stoner-Yannick Weber

Eddie Lack

Jacob Markstrom
