Discussion 10 good questions on canucks future and the nhl

Recommended Posts

1. So trevor linden said he will be making a few changes but thinks the core still could win with a bit of a change soo do we keep kesler or trade him for a maximized return example (pouliot, bennett, 1st) ??

2. How many rookies will play next yr on team i see horvat, gaunce, fox, kenins, shinkaruk, jensen and corrado, forcing the gm and coach to keep them up with their strong play.

3. Gary bettman in seattle to talk with group about their building a arena how sweet will seattle and canuck rivalry be ( people will flock to seattle from van seening theres a 6 yr wait for season tickets in van )

Increase nhl to 32 teams with seattle and vegas and move one of florida team back to quebec

Would increase league revenues.

4. How much will tanev and kassian cost to resign. Id offer them both 3 yr deals anything over 2.5 for tanev id trade him he has no offense or grit in my eyes not worth 3.5mill a yr

5. When will nhl get tough on the bush league stuff thats been going on diving water bottles spears i say. Have a panel of 5 people be able to review any plays and if deemed valid they are kicked out of the game plus 1 game suspension that would end the diving olympics and this bs real quick plus repeat offenders will get longer suspensions each time.

6. Should we stay with young swedish goalie trio or sign a free agent? I say go with tres kronor

7. Draft Jake virtanen or Richie? I say virtanen big banging winger thats clutch And western canadian kid

8. Should we trade hansen before his ntc kicks in id rather have a pick for him and kenins take his spot saving us 1.9 mill more in cap space.

9. What free agents should we target My list includes pitkanen, hainsey, mitchell, stasny, ott, heatley (cheap on yr for heatley see if sedins can spark him) money ball.

10. Do you think crosby will be traded in offseason i think pens might trade him do to his selfish antics am i wrong or do you think theres fire where theres smoke??

Love to see your reactions

1. Trade him for something like that

2. I see Horvat and maybe Corrado. The rest need to improve on lots of areas of their game. Jensen is pretty much a lock since he already played well this season

3. It's not as simple as that. Many pieces to that and it will take lots of time, effort and money to make even 1 relocation/ new franchise work (ex. Winnipeg)

4. Tanev = $3-3.5m for 3-4 years. He's worth it since he's our 2nd best dman and best defensive "prospect" going forward. Not every dman needs to be able to put up Karlsson esque #'s

Kassian = $2-2.5m for 1-2 years. Still needs to prove to be consistant. If he become a good player, he'll get a raise soon enough

5. Really? you're getting worked up about water bottles? Fines are enough for both. If refs deem for anything to be a penalty, then it's a penalty. Bigger issue IMO is increasing instant replay use. Too many bad calls/blown calls have been made already.

6. Keep the Swedes

7. I'd rather trade the pick for Evander Kane if 1 of the top 5 doesn't fall. If WPG doesn't accept or asks for too much, I'd want either Ehlers, Ritchie or Nylander because I can see them all having potential to become 1st liners. I'd probably pick Ritchie. Can be a BEAST. (Yes I made the case for Virtanen, but as time wore on, I changed my mind).

8. Trade him. 2nd or 3rd rounder ought to do it.

9. NOBODY over the age of 26. Go into a rebuild. Tank. Get a center from 2015 draft. Set for future w/ a few more trades

10. LOL

1) This core can't win, at least in its current form. Trade Kesler for Pouliot, Bennett, 1st (may need to throw in Hansen or something else like that).

2) Horvat, Jensen, and maybe Corrado.

3) I like the idea of Seattle-Vancouver rivalry and I think hockey would become pretty popular in Seattle, so $$$. Not quite sure about Vegas though. Moving a Florida team to Quebec will only mean more money for the NHL.

4) Tanev for $3M for 2 years (lines up against Bieksa's and Hamhuis' contract). Kassian for $2M for 3 years (lines up against Burrows' contract).

5) Sure.

6) I'm for the most part indifferent. Though it a vet goalie is signed Markstrom needs to be traded or he'll just be claimed off of waivers.

7) Ritchie. Just please not Ehlers or Nylander.

8) Yeah get Hansen out of here. $2.5M for 4 years with a NTC is ridiculous.

9) UFAs? Santorelli.

10) No Crosby's not leaving.

11)...Do we still get dinged for SEVEN MINUTE PK's if we try to defend ourselves?!?!

12)...Will our players continue to get SUSPENDED for unprovoked sneezing?!

13)...Will it remain a lunch money fine for opponents to illegally /deliberately INJURE our players(especially in packs of three)?!

Inquiring minds wanna' know!

1.

I mean, I would be willing to trade Kesler for young players, but you it's really hard to trade a player that's been your best the whole season.

2.

Tough, Horvat will most likely get the nod. Atleast give Shinkaruk 1 more year in the AHL. Jensen, Corrado, and maybe Dane Fox. But Dane Fox is an over-aged forward who is 20 years old and he's usually playing against 15 to 19 year olds. So let's see if Fox can rip it up in the AHL alongside Shinkaruk. Give Gaunce 1 more year in the AHL. Hmmm, A line of Fox/Gaunce/Shinkaruk would be awesome!

3.

Seattle is becoming a sport city if you know what I mean. It would be a very good rivalry that could go on for years and decades.

4.

2.5 MILL for Kass

3.5/4 Mill for Tanev as again was the 2nd best defenseman,

5.

The league needs to take more action. This kind of retarded stuff should not be tolerated. It sets a bad example to the league and the sport Hockey itself.

6.

I'm all over the Swedes.

7.

We can't pass up on a BC native. We've missed a lot of those already. Draft Virtanen.

8.

Trade Hansen. I M M E D I A T L E Y

9.

Stasney.

10. No way hes leaving

Tanev = 2nd best +- on the Nucks this season. He was extremely reliable and he doesn't cave under pressure. Played the 6th most in TOI on the team and is GREAT at playing defense. I'd rather have Tanev than say, Karlsson any day. (Let the hate commence). Karlsson may be able to put up as many points as a forward, but he can't play defense to save his life. Which, ironically enough, is his position. Tanev isn't flashy, but he gets the job done. The funny thing is, Tanev isn't THAT BAD in terms of points. Sure, he was 5th in nucks dmen scoring- but not by a huge margin. He had 7 less P than the Bieksa, who was 2nd in canucks dman scoring. If Edler, Bieksa and Garrison can get more than $4m, then he deserves at least $3-3.5m.

I hate that Kane arguement. Oh, he brings drama. Who the **** gives a damn? He plays in Winnipeg for crying out loud. Their captain is Ladd, who's not a bad player by any means, but he's not somebody a young guy like Kane is going to respect. If he comes to his home province and the team he grew up cheering for and gets mentored by the Sedins, he'll grow up. Kane can be a legit 1st liner, I don't think anybody but maybe Ritchie can do that outside of the top 5.

My West Final: Hawks vs Kings

My East Final: Bruins vs NYR

My Final: Hawks vs Bruins

My Winner: Bruins

Remember Detroit and Pittsburgh a couple years ago? That's my prediction.

1. So trevor linden said he will be making a few changes but thinks the core still could win with a bit of a change soo do we keep kesler or trade him for a maximized return example (pouliot, bennett, 1st) ??

I still have faith in this team, I think moving Kesler is a mistake this year, make a play for Spezza and/or a FA winger like Hemskey and things could look totally different next year.

2. How many rookies will play next yr on team i see horvat, gaunce, fox, kenins, shinkaruk, jensen and corrado, forcing the gm and coach to keep them up with their strong play.

I don't see many being full time players. I See Corrado being on the roster and depending on if we can land a FA or not Jensen may also be a full timer. The rest may get a look here and there but I don't see Horvat being brought in just yet, not worth burning that first year, we will have Matthais and Santorelli filling his role until he is ready.

My on selfish wish is for Seattle and Wisconsin or KC getting a team and Florida and Phoenix moving to Quebec and Portland. I think Florida moving by the end of next year is a distinct possibility and I honestly think that was part of the thought process in having the Florida teams in the atlantic division. Florida moves to Quebec and Columbus replaces Tampa in atlantic. Seattle will get a team but I think we are looking at 2016 season at this rate if it is via expansion. I could see the NHL waiting for the coyote's lease to be up to move them to Seattle. there are many other viable cities if expansion is something they want done in the near future.

4. How much will tanev and kassian cost to resign. Id offer them both 3 yr deals anything over 2.5 for tanev id trade him he has no offense or grit in my eyes not worth 3.5mill a yr

Kassian should be looking at something in the area of Burrow's old deal but shorter term Maybe a 2x2 sort of bridge contract. Despite his better play he has not been a real impact player yet, atleast not enough to get paid anything over 2.5M yet.

Tanev to me is a little more tricky. I think it depends on if Edler is moved. If that cap space is freed up it solidifies his position as a top 4 on the roster. I fully expect a contract similiar to Edler's previous deal which I believe was 3-4 years at 3.25. The only argument management has in lowering Tanev's contract is his limited offensive talent, but his defensive game is worth a healthy 3-3.5M in today's game.

I don't have enough knowledge about the entire disciplinary system so I don't have a strong opinion on the matter. I do believe there needs to be more consistency but this is an area of the game where the league can be very very thorough and still get a lot wrong.

6. Should we stay with young swedish goalie trio or sign a free agent? I say go with tres kronor

The owners have made their bed it's time to lay in it. While none of the three are spectacular yet all three have accolades and high expectations of themselves. For all we know they could each turn into a Lundqvist, or at least a Gustavsson. No goalie worth signing is going to sign for a short term. So it wouldn't be fair to the goalies we have and one or two would have to be traded.

7. Draft Jake virtanen or Richie? I say virtanen big banging winger thats clutch And western canadian kid

I like Virtanen personally but there is a bias there.

8. Should we trade hansen before his ntc kicks in id rather have a pick for him and kenins take his spot saving us 1.9 mill more in cap space.

I've read a lot of your posts and know you're high on Kenins. I hope he pans out. That said one bad year for the honey badger with a new coach who had a terrible system, didn't play him to his strengths, all while taking care of newborn twins? I'll give him a pass and keep him next year. I remember at times in 2012-13 people talking about how Hansen is one of the best 3rd liners in the entire league, I think this statement was true, and can be true again next year.

98

9. What free agents should we target My list includes pitkanen, hainsey, mitchell, stasny, ott, heatley (cheap on yr for heatley see if sedins can spark him) money ball.

I've always been keen on Mitchell coming back and playing a cool 18 minutes a game, optimal ice time for a guy of his talent at his age, could make Corrado look good. I also like the idea of Clayton Stoner. He can be rather brash and would look formidable playing next to Bieksa for ES minutes.

as far as forwards go I'm a personal fan of trading for Spezza but I know that is not popular opinion. Moulsen is intriguing and Hemsky has shown what he is capable of. Santorelli MUST come back though, guy is ballin'

10. Do you think crosby will be traded in offseason i think pens might trade him do to his selfish antics am i wrong or do you think theres fire where theres smoke??

The teams that have the assets to land Crosby wont be the teams that he wants to go to and vice versa. I think trading Crosby or Malkin would be a mistake, but moving Letang would be impossible due to health factors. Idk, I think the situation in Pittsburgh is too complicated for me. Obviously an asset needs to be moved or else they will never have the necessary depth.

Kesler and Subban for

Etem

10th overall

Anaheim's new blue chip are Gibson and Smythe Pelly, Subban immediately gets name recognition and helps marketing for a black fan base along with Smythe Pelly, with Etem leaving it balances out, then with the 10th overall we draft Virtanen or Perlini.

Shinkaruk Etem Kassian

Ritchie Henrik Virtanen

Daniel Horvat Jensen

Matthias Santorelli Gaunce

Richardson Higgins Burrows

Not that it should be taken TOO much into consideration but J. Subban had more goals than PK in his post draft season and played tougher minutes on a worse team.

That isn't to say he will be better than his brother, but it may be an indication of a real steal in the draft. I wouldn't want to move him especially with some LD probably leaving the system soon (ei. sauve)

1. If he wants out and the return is significant, yes. If no to either, NO!!!

2. I guess if you consider Corrado and Jensen as rookies, then 3 will play on the team next year: Corrado, Jensen and Horvat.

3. Seattle deal won't happen unless they get an NBA team back as well to maximize new arena.

4. Tanev: 3 years at 3 mil. Kassian: 2 years at 2-2.5 mil.

5. Whatever...

6. Sign FA goalie like Elliot, Hiller, or Halak to split time with Lack or Markstrom (whoever looks stronger in training camp). Neither of them are ready to carry this team for 60+ games yet.

7. Tough call. Both have good all-around games. Ritchie is bigger. Virtanen looks to have a bit more speed and more of a prolific scorer. Too close to call for me.

8. Trade him. Got plenty of guys who can take his spot in that role.

9. Paul Stastny (if Kesler is traded), Matt Moulson (if Kesler not traded), Matt Niskanen, Ryan Callahan, Benoit Pouliot, Ryan Jones, goalies I mentioned.

10. Crosby stays, maybe Malkin goes.

Jordan Subban is also 5'9'', as a defense man.

1: If Kesler wants out he can go otherwise be a mistake

2: Jensen did to well not to be

Corrado deserves a legitimate look at a permanent spot

Gaunce also has a legitimate chance to push for a spot

Shinkaruk to start(10-15 games) in Utica to ensure he is in game shape..Will see then

Horvat near lock imo

3: Seattle be great to have...Less travel for players to have a team right next door

4: Kassian 2.5 Tanev package outta here

5: Who cares

6: I would stick with it...41 games each or if one can steal the net go with it

7: Florida would draft Ekblad, Buffalo needs wingers, Edmonton needs defence/wingers, Calgary would draft Reinhart if available to unite 2 of the Brothers, NYI needs defence/goaltending

So in short Vancouver has a chance at drafting Sam Bennett depending on trades

8: Hansen and Booth need to go...I would consider Burrows as well depending on offer

9: none

10: Does not matter we don't have the pieces to bother
