CaNuCkSLoUiE23
Anyone have any advice on what video camera/camcorder would be ideal? It's my parents 25th anniversary on June 3rd, and my dad decided to treat the entire family with a trip to the Mayan Riveria in Mexico, however, he has an ancient video camera that he plans on taking. My mom does not want to him take that embarrassment. I was planning on buying a video camera for them, but don't know too much on the subject. Hoping for some help so that I don't end up regretting it. Looking to spend up to $400. I was looking at this but I'm not sure: http://m.bestbuy.ca/defaultpage.aspx?lang=en#/catalog/productdetails.aspx?ajax=true&sku=10288053&lang=en-CA
canuktravella
Buy a go pro it costs about 400 journalists use them and camcorders are a dying breed plus go pros are waterproof as well
nux4lyfe
Canon T series are a great choice, Any thing from the Canon T2i to the T3/T3i are likely in that price range and I highly recommend them...we've shot great videos and photo's with them. BeefcakeBo
The cannon t2i and up are great I use them quite a bit for various projects, my t3i is great. My Gopro is much better for low light though, and much more versatile, if you have the right mounts you can use anywhere. But for you older family a cheap video camera is probably the best way to go to be completely honest. It may not take better video or have as many features, but the thing to think about while on vacation is what do you want to pack around the whole time and what's practical to pull out and use. Offensive Threat
If your Dad is anything like mine then ease of use is a top priority. Took just a few min to teach him how to take vid with his phone and now he does all the time. Sure its not great quality, or even good quality but its pocketable and he always has it with him which is more than you can say for almost every video camera. Toni Zamboni
i would say get a great point and shoot camera that also does good video(1080p@60fps). chances are they will get more use out of it and will enjoy really nice photos more than video but they still have the option of both. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-ca/product/sony-sony-cyber-shot-20-4mp-30x-optical-zoom-digital-camera-with-wifi-dschx50vb-black-dschx50vb/10252333.aspx?path=63ad305249a200d98a73d5e870b49ebben02 i would not suggest a gopro for them...they are really small and they dont have a zoom and they are really more suited for action and best for mounting on things that are moving...they are great cameras but i doubt its the best choice for your parents. i could suggest other options but you said your budget was up to 400. Yeah unless he is good with technology or does his own research ease of use should be the top priority. I learned this the hard way with my parents. My mom ended up using her iPad exclusively for checking emails and my father would ring my phone into submission constantly asking me how to do various different things with whatever I got him. It got to the point where I was designated to operate all of his tech for him. Ease of use is a must for parents who aren't into tech xD
CaNuCkSLoUiE23
Thanks for all the replies guys. But the problem with my dad is that he is really old-fashioned, and doesn't know much about the newer technology. My mom is just terrible with taking pictures and videos because she's always shaking the camera. I got him an iPhone 3GS last year and he still has trouble using it. Instead of touching the screen, he basically smashes it XD He also complains a lot so if I buy him a camera that shoots video, he'll start complaining because he likes camcorders. That's why I'm looking for a camcorder that he can easily maneuver. We have a digital camera already, but it doesn't shoot the greatest videos. TGokou
Another factor is how much does he use it? Sounds like he doesn't use it at all judging by the prehistoric model. If not then I wouldn't suggest a stand alone camcorder
aGENT
Get him a good mirror-less camera system that also does good video (Sony Nex, Panasonic Micro 4:3 etc)
