nux4lyfe
What is your opinion on what 'success' is? , Is it having a lot of money? living comfort? Doing what you love and maybe not making tons?....maybe, being a simple person that money doesn't run your life?....I think many people have diff goals and ideas of what success means to them, Please share yours... But I honestly think people define everything based on money, it's like that's all we need to chase..and the more we accumulate, the more successful we are...I dunno, sounds real off to me.. Mr.DirtyDangles
Keeping up my personal health and sanity is the ultimate success for me. Being able to think, react, run and jump like i am still in my 20's means the world to me. Money means nothing if you dont have your health or sanity to enjoy it if you have it. My motto since elementary is "Stay as young as possible for as long as possible" Link to comment

goalie13
You should look into Maslow's hierarchy of needs. The gist of it is, once your basics needs are taken care of, you are motivated by different things. Money may help you achieve or acquire those things, but it isn't money that necessarily motivates a person. I know it's not technically a way to measure success, but it is sort of related. Also, I always found this video very interesting... Link to comment

Agreed, and very good way to put it (Scrooge comes to mind as an example of that). Of course, there's also the hedonistic treadmill where people don't feel like they've achieved much after awhile, since, having grown used to what they have, they want more and may not be satisfied with their current state. I think at its essence, success is, after making a sustainable living, definable as living an enjoyable (fun, meaningful) life with good health, loving relationships and the freedom to do things that you want, plus for some the ability to "send the elevator back down" and help those less fortunate than us can also reinforce the feeling of success. Success is knowing your strengths and realizing it to a level in which you're one of the best. A comfortable life, and emotional fulfillment from others are also required but not enough on it's own. I think that's really only true for extreme cases, like if you're truly elite at whatever you're good at. If you're decent but want to get even better but the learning curve is steep or chance for success is really low, for instance, it'd be hard to feel successful esp. if you keep comparing with others. That's why part of feeling successful should also come from fostering gratefulness for, and feeling sufficient with the things we've developed/ been blessed with in life. Link to comment
Baka
It is defined by the individual. What the individual wants in life and if they achieve it/and are happy. The stereotypes like love and money are only relevant if the individual has a need or desire for them. Raw definition. What did you want in life and did you get it? Link to comment

AppleJack
When I was younger I used to think you weren't successful unless you had a lot of money, fancy cars, or a house. I have none of those things but I have a decent job, I can afford to pay rent, bills, food, have some left over for fun. I also have a small but super close group of friends, close family and an awesome guy, and lastly my kitty! So I don't know maybe I am lame but having those things, have love and friendship and companionship and being able to live in the city (even if it's hard sometimes) those things matter more to me then a house, or a fancy car and millions of dollars. I am just a simple girl. I do wish I had a winning hockey team though Link to comment
