[Proposal] Time to trade the Twins

Recommended Posts

First of all, let me start by saying I really like the Sedins, respect their character, recognize that they are 'special' nhlers ... However, personal feelings aside I have to recognize they are past they're prime and although they are still valuable players capable of scoring 70-80 points if they bounce back, I think it's time to part ways. I don't believe our aging core is good enough to win a cup and I don't think that can be fixed before the twins lose 1st line status.

So, if it's time to rebuild, I'm thinking we ask the panthers to dance again.

To Florida: Daniel and Henrick

To Van: 2014 1st, 2015 1st, Brad Boyes

The twins wave their trade clause to live in the sun, are reunited with Lou and Jovo, and believe there is an easier path to glory in the East.

Florida jumps at this trade because it makes their team much better and they can market the heck out of the twins there and generate legitimate interest.

Vancouver drafts Ekblad this year while keeping their 6th. Boyes slips into a 2nd line role. They free up cap space and get another 1st round pick for next year. Next year some spaces open up for our prospects to audition but the growing pains don't lead us to the playoffs. We groom our prospects and take a good pick in the 2015 draft. 2 years from now we emerge with a new younger core which can develop into a dynasty.

I know this proposal may be a little far fetched. I doubt the twins would actually agree to the move. I doubt management has the courage to be so bold. I really don't know if my valuation of the twins for Boyes, Ekblad and 2015 1st round pick is accurate. But ... I think this proposal addresses a few desires. We get Ekblad. We tank next year to move up in the 2015 draft. We create roster space to give youth the minutes that benefit their development. And, we recognize that we won't likely win a cup with the Sedins as our best players. That ship has sailed. We need to get better.

So it has become a "what have you done for me recently" mentality with the 2 best players this franchise has had...exactly why our fans are among the worst.

Certainly I'm not in a "what have you done for me lately" frame of mind. More like "can we win a cup with Danny and Hank as 2/3 of our top line and 12.2 mil in cap space". I'm not sure it can be done. Then, the tough choice is to make a bold move to rebuild while we can get the best return possible. That said, I'd love to see them retire here. I'm just trying to figure out what a fair market value for the twins might be and I want to start a conversation around whether or not we can win a cup with them leading the way anymore.

Ps. Although Canuck fans are sully and fickle at times, let's not be too hard on ourselves. We are generally passionate and as knowledgable as any teams fans. We could work on loyalty. (Yeah I get the irony saying that while talking about trading the twins) :)

Speak only for yourself as posters are only speaking for themselves.

The only reason trolls say we have the worst fans is because it works on you.

It's not that the Sedins are bad players but they are clearly in decline, they are aging, they wont play anywhere separately, and they have new contracts at a combined 14 million dollar cap hit for 4 years.

Honestly, even if the Canucks wanted to trade them and they were willing to go I think we'd be lucky to get anything of any use for them.

Super! Another Florida-Vancouver trade. God knows they all worked out for us...

The twins are going nowhere but Vancouver until retirement, whether anyone likes it or not.

Lol we have fans wanting to trade players like Kesler, heart and soul of this team, the Sedin twins, the guys who have gave it their all for Vancouver, Burrows (Again, heart and soul). Don't kid yourself man, all those "Trolls" are telling the truth. This proposal is clear example of it.

There is absolutely zero chance a trade like this happens. Henrik alone could probably get that package in return from Florida. But let's look at the deal anyway. Constructive criticism right.

Everyone knows that if there ever is any trade involving the Sedins that they have to go together. It's a package deal. The return for both of them will be exponentially more than 2 first round picks and 2nd liner with consistency issues. I would have to think that IF these two teams looked into a trade of the twins to Florida the Canucks would be asking for a package along the lines of Huberdeau, Kulikov, Boyes first round pick in 2014 and first in 2015. Sure the Sedins are aging but together they are by far the best players on Florida immediately and form 2/3 of their top line. The Sedins still have a ton of talent and mileage left in them. Plus playing in the East in that division they would rack up the points.

Secondly, the cap hit to any team taking on both twins is gonna be very difficult. Of course, Florida has tons of cap space but that is a massive cap hit to take in one trade. And the twins have to agree to any MOVEMENT to another team.

Just saying that any trade involving the twins is gonna take a huge package coming back and the cap situation has to be taken into consideration.
