Mackcanuck
"Sources have told The Dispatch that R.J. Umberger’s end-of-season meeting with Blue Jackets management and coaches ended with a mutual agreement that Umberger would go on the trading block this summer." "Umberger, who is signed through the 2016-17 season at a $4.6 million salary-cap hit, has a no-trade clause in his contract through June 14. On June 15, the full no-trade clause becomes a limited clause, and Umberger will provide the Blue Jackets with 10 NHL clubs to which he would not approve a trade. That would leave 19 teams. Umberger was angered and hurt late in the regular season when he was made a healthy scratch four times in a seven-game stretch while the Blue Jackets were fighting for a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs." http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2014/05/18/jackets-umberger-agree-trade-is-needed.html
johngould21
His injury history would be a concern, but he's the guy that Brian Burke drove to the airport, without giving him an opportunity to play in Vancouver. Big, good skating center. Did the Canucks lose him without compensation? One of the reasons I despise Burke.

johngould21
We got Rucinsky, he played 13 games and got 3 points lol.. All the more reasons for me to despise Burke. RJ was certainly good enough to play for the US of A in the 2010 Olympics, but Burke being Burke, didn't even elaborate on the guy, just chose guys all around him. theminister
Of course he will be open to a trade and so will the Jackets. If they can't trade him he's an obvious buyout candidate. I still think he's a useful player but not worth that contract.
YummyCakeFace
Brian Lawton was RJ's agent in those days. Brian Burke offered RJ less than what Vancouver had just signed Kesler for. Lawton didn't like that so he elected to have RJ sit out. RJ was then traded to the Rangers. Basic summarization if I remember correctly.

Absent Canuck
VAN Umberger Murray CBJ Kesler 6th I actually thought about this for a while. Umberger has negative value. So adding him in the deal should sweeten a deal for Kesler alone. To Columbus Kesler 2nd in 2014 (36th) To Vancouver Wennberg 1st in 2015 1st in 2014 Umberger (negative value )

canucklehead44
Kesler + Booth to CBJ for Erixon, Jenner & Umberger. Jenner is going to be a really solid player. Erixon is VERY skilled, 38 points in 40 games in the AHL. Could develop into the pmd we need.
Hockey Stache
I think that the first proposal of Kesler and the 6th overall for Umberger and Murray isn't far off. However, I think Kesler alone should be enough to get Umberger and Murray. Umberger isn't the same player anymore and requesting a trade and having go public only hurts the value the Jackets will get back for him. So, as someone else mentioned he is really a negative asset (kinda like Luongo was). Now, Columbus is not going to want to trade Murray. Why would they, he is there defenseman of the future. To me it is highly unlikely that Kesler waives to go to Columbus but I think a package of Anisimov, Rychel and Nikitin for Kesler and Higgins/Hansen. Stay away from Umberger. To the proposal for Wennberg 1st in 2014 and 2015 PLUS Umberger for Kesler and a 2nd round pick. Are you serious????? No chance Columbus even takes a second to think about that. They just signed Wennberg and he will be crazy good for them. I just don't get all these proposals for Kesler without getting an established yet young forward in return. The Canucks will not take back picks and prospects alone for Kesler. There needs to be a young roster player coming back.
