J.I.A.H.N
I am your new GM, I have wilted to CDC's preasure and I have traded Kesler (Ottawa 2014-10th over all, Anahiems 2014-25th overall and Etem)and Edler (Florida's 2014-32overall, 2015-40th overall, and 2016-70th overall). Doing so has weekened our club immensely, after sittng down with my brain trust, we had determined to do a 2 year overhaul of our team. We have also traded Booth and Schroeder and have aquired two additional third round picks in the 2014 We will be heavily involved in the 2014 UFA market and we have also decided to trade 2 of our veterans, at the 2014-2015 trade deadline. Where's Wellwood
I was going to make a snarky comment like 'This isn't fun!' but instead I'll give it a chance. Who did you use the compliance buyout on?
William_Clarkson
You realize the point of trading Kesler & Edler would be to weaken the team for draft positions, right? Sorry, weekend the team.
Zoolander
I'll be positive about this thread.... I like the addition of McKeown and Dougherty, but we still need a 1st line Centre to replace Henrik down the road. I suggest targeting Konecny, Colin White or Matthew Barzal in the 2015 draft. Trading for a 1st line C would be an overpayment and I don't think we'd finish low enough in the standings to draft McDavid or Eichel

If we end up with too many #2/3 centers as prospects, that could be packaged as well ( Not Horvat, but maybe Cassels or Fox?...Maybe)
J.I.A.H.N
Stopped reading after Edler was only worth three picks outside of the first round.... I actually think he is worth a first +, but everytime I put that out, everyone jumps all over it, so I decided to change it up a little and give us 2 high 2nds and a high 3rd......I thought that might be close to equal value. Certainly alot of good defensemen come out of the 2nd round.....I tried Come and put out a list.....I wouldn't mind the exchange of opinions, instead of all these other posters that trash a thread instead of adding something concrete.......maybe they don't have anything to contribute???? McBackup
Well If this is a discussion, this is what I'd tweak your scenario to To Anaheim Ryan Kesler To Vancouver Emerson Etem 10th Overall (Fleury) 25th Overall (Quenneville) (For the record, I don't think this deal would fly with Anaheim, but in your scenario I'm rolling with it) That would help shore up our Defensive prospect pool thats pretty weak imo. Now, assuming in your scenario we can get Edler to waive, I definitely think we could get much better for him. Karlsson and Edler played really well. However, we have to keep in mind they know how bad he's been lately, so they aren't going to give up a great deal given he still might not turn out for them To Ottawa Alex Edler To Vancouver Curtis Lazar 40th Overall 2014 (Jack Glover) Then use our 6th to draft whoever falls out of the top 5 (I'm extremely confident someone will). This is of course using your very optimistic parameters.

If we end up with too many #2/3 centers as prospects, that could be packaged as well ( Not Horvat, but maybe Cassels or Fox?...Maybe) Trading Edler AND Kesler means bringing in who as replacement C? We will have a new coach AND a new system as well as no substantial back up with lack and Markstrom taking the reigns at 60/40 on the season respectively. Couple this with our top line of Sedin Sedin Burrows now seemingly injured all the time and a glut of tweener 2nd/3rd liners and banking on finishing 8th-12th in the league for draft position is very, and I do say VERY generous as I see us finishing below a revitalized Calgary team, a Florida team with a healthy young core and a Luongo with something to prove, an Islanders team with a healthy Tavares and a new stadium with a serious need to NOT give divisional rival Buffalo a top 5 pick (potential MacDavid) and an Edmonton team that will most likely finally break out with a solid goaltender and some decent D pieces via UFA and trade. Honestly, 8th-12 is far to generous and I think we compete for top 3 draft position the second we get an injury. As we are banking the season on a healthy top line and that is it. Now, to the matter at hand since I am off my phone and on a tower. Edler for 3 picks outsider of the 1st round and NO prospect coming back is criminal as we either need an RW prospect coming back with at least a 1st round pick, or a solid RH D prospect and a minimum of a 2nd rounder. My best suggestion is still Detroit for Jurco/Sproul/Mantha and their 1st this year. It makes the most sense as he gets to play with Zetterburg, Holmstrom Franzen etc and that system is made for him. The picks themselves are ok for the most part although i'd risk taking one of Virtanen/Ritchie/Ehlers/Nylander/Tuch or Fleury at the 10 spot as we need that potential game breaker and or solid depth at the RW position to solidify our organizational need for RW's as once we look past our NHL roster, our only RW prospect is Grenier. Now as for next year, again I can almost guarantee, one injury or a series of injuries has us competing for that top 3 spot in the draft leaving us in a great position really to draft one of those studs. The overall proposal is not bad, but again I strongly feel as though you may be over valuing Kesler for Anaheim (but being in the same division it's almost necessary for that return) and under valuing Edler (as no matter what people say he's a stud under a great contract). I would also consider thinking a secondary Kesler proposal of the rumoured Pitts trade being Bennett Pouliot and a 1st which would be incredibly beneficial int he event we remove Edler from the roster as Pouliot is a strong big bodied stud D man prospect who has been groomed in the WHL on an incredible Portland team with our secondary D prospect Cederholm. Both attractive offers and returns for Kesler. Keeping the Pitts proposal in mind this gives us an opportunity to do the following as well. Potential lines and pairings of (all possiblilities depending on returns Forwards: Gaunce Fox (possible MacDavid draft in the event of a lott win or a 2nd overall finish in 2015 draft) Ritchie Cornel (provided we draft them in the 1st and 2nd rounds this year if they're both available) Cassels Dal Colle Etem Shinkaruk Pouliot Cederholm Again, this is all just a possibility and multiple different things happening correctly all at once, which obviously almost always never happens. But again, things to consider. Thanks for letting me play.

These are the same people that think Bieksa is worth a top 10 pick this year, or that the twins should be traded, or that Burrows deserves a buy out.... Ignore them. There is a reason even NHL 14 GM mode laughs at them. Edler is worth a MINIMUM of a 1st and if he were ever traded for less of that the same people who hate him the most would cry themselves to sleep at the obvious lack of return for such an asset
Wiznac
Anaheim will go after Spezza . He's not in the same conference and could be had for a cheaper price. I still think if we deal kesler it will be to the east.

Spezza is an offensive center who tends to shy from physical contact Kesler is a defensive center or an offensive winger who thrives on the in your face style of play you see in the playoffs. Kesler is also under friendlier contract for an extra year I really think Kesler has a shade mroe value under those conditions. Added we don't know how Spezza would fair in western conference play, he could wilt quickly, but we know almost without question Kesler in the East would be terrifying. Wanna trade a 1st for Liles? you're opinion on anything Edler doesn't matter Heff. You'd trade an Astin Martin for a Volvo when it only had a faulty fuel pump, This is the analogy I use in regards to any thing you might say regarding Edler You hate him to much to be credible
