[Proposal] Van - Pitts

Recommended Posts

I know its unlikely he moves / waives his NTC & moving Edler seems cliche these days but I was thinking about a possible trade:

To Pittsburgh:

Alex Edler

To Vancouver:

Poulliott, Sutter + 2014 3rd

Not sure if this is a complete over payment by Pitts or totally under valuing Edler but Van gets a young PMD it desperately needs & also has chemistry with Cederholm (could possibly have them play together next year in Utica), a cap dump in Sutter to help Pittsburgh regards the cap in taking on Eddys salary as well as a guy to possibly take over the 3rd line if Kesler is moved (meaning Matthais or someone is the 2nd line C).

For Pittsburgh it gives them a Dman with a solid contract for awhile and a guy who had his best seasons under a PMD & could possibly really thrive playing with Letang and give them that much needed stability on the backend that they have needed since their cup win.

Eddy gets a much needed change of scenery & out of the pressure cooker of Vancouver (not saying Pitts ignores the Penguins) and also plays in a lighter hitting Eastern Conference + he would be playing on a club that is most likely going to be playoff bound for the forseeable future whereas Vancouver looks to be doing a quasi-rebuild / retool and will be in a struggle to make the playoffs for the next couple seasons.

Is this fair value both ways or an overpayment from Pitts or under valuing Edler too much?

I know it all hinges on Edler waiving his NTC which he said he won't do, just curious what people think of the offer & if its realistic or not. The dog days of summer is already here :(

Does Schroeder really have much value though? I am probably in the minority but IF a Kesler deal does happen (for prospects & 2015 picks is what I am hoping for) I wouldn't mind seeing Schroeder get a real fair shot in the top 6.

I'd hate to see Van toss this guy in a deal only for him to turn into MSL 2.0 (guy who was deemed to small in the west excels big time in the east).

Last year he got hit with the injury bug and before that AV had him on the 3rd / 4th line which I just don't think JS is suited too. I guess my problem is I have a tough time thinking this guy being a potential top 10 in his draft year was this much of a dud, but hey it happens.

Don't see this trade happening ever. The Pens would not part with Pouliot for Kesler, no way they do for Edler. And like the previous poster mentioned they have plenty of up and coming defenceman. What the Pens need is forwards: top 6 and better 3rd and 4th line players. Really looking at the Pens NHL lineup it is very similar to the Canucks. Both teams have high-end talent with Corsby/Malkin and the Twins in Van but both teams lack the bottom six players that can offset some of the minutes of the top six.

Granted the Pens have better supplementary players in Kunitz and Neal for their top six but the Canucks probably have better NHL depth in defenceman. Pittsburgh does have a scary good crop of young defenceman knocking on the door though.

Like it was said above, IF Edler waives to go somewhere you have to think the destinations will be Det, Ott or Tbay.

I really want to get pouliot but it's going to cost Kesler. I'm down with doing a pouliot 1st and another young forward/prospect for Kes but sutter just seems to be redundant. We just traded for Matthias, gaunce is going to be in the ahl next year and Horvat may even crack the team.

I'd say go after Bennett but I don't know if they'd give both him and DP up in the same deal.

So we might have to add one of our young Swedish 'tenders(Pitt needs options there)?

I dunno I wouldn't trade my best young forward prospect and my blue chip defense kid for him if I was in their shoes. I'd kick the tires and try to build a package around one of them and if van doesn't bite I look to the ufa market or try and find another trade.

That being said from the Vancouver side I would probably take Pouliot Bennett and a 4th(preferably 3rd but I would accept a 4th as I'm sold on those 2 players). Let em keep their top picks and give us their 2 best nhl ready prospects.

If do this deal way before I'd do an Anaheim deal. Pouliot has a higher ceiling than anyone you'd get at 10th overall and could be a star puck mover. Bennett I'd rank pretty close to Etem. Adding a true puck moving star would be huge for the future. Plus he's Canadian, adding high end Canadian players is always a good thing.

Pitt values poliout very highly, I don't think they would trade him for edler. They weren't even willing to throw pouliot in a trade for Kesler. Poliout's ceiling is much higher than edler. I think pens would much rather trade letang instead

Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Derrick Pouliot underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday and may not be ready to take to the ice for the start of the 2014-15 season.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Pouliot will be out four to six months as he recovers.

The 20-year-old defenceman was drafted in the first round, eighth overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Penguins. He scored 17 goals and 53 assists in 58 games with the WHL's Portland Winterhawks this season.

McKenzie also reports that Penguins defenceman Olli Maatta will undergo shoulder surgery on Thursday.

Maatta played in 78 games with the Penguins this season, scoring nine goals and adding 20 assists. He appeared in all 13 of the Penguins' playoff games, notching four assists.
