Apples
Expect* http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=452632 The Vancouver Canucks are expected to name Jim Benning the team's new general manager later this week, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported Tuesday. Naming a head coach is next for the organization, with former Nashville Predators bench boss Barry Trotz high on the team's list of candidates. Benning, a former Canucks defenceman who spent nine seasons in the league with Vancouver and the Toronto Maple Leafs, has been an assistant with the Bruins since 2006. Following his playing career that ended in 1990, he worked as a scout for the Anaheim Ducks and the Buffalo Sabres before a six-year run as the Sabres Director of Amateur Scouting starting in 1998. Benning won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011. Newly appointed team president Trevor Linden parted ways with former general manager Mike Gillis last month and fired head coach John Tortorella in early May. Trotz was relieved of his head coaching duties with the Predators in mid-April, the organization he had been with for 15 seasons.

Warhippy
Even with Hiring Benning and Trotz being a serious possibility in the next few days, I am STILL hoping for one more off year to drop some dead weight contracts and shake up the core. Because we have seen that this core needs to be shaken up. we don't have the assets as of yet to start trading for players like E. Kane and we still need prospects at specific areas and positions in depth in our org. Couple that with a weak draft and weak UFA year, I still hope we can just give Benning Linden and Trotz (should they be hired) a season to figure it all out, hope for a solidly high draft pick (argue about it all spring) eject some of the detritus on the teams current roster and then be ready for 2015-2016 competitively. ** edit/add on This does not mean I desire abject failure from the team, I just see this team needing a minimum of one year for Trotz/Benning and co. to get their bearings on what this team needs moving forward. One full season of let the cards lie where they fall mentality is needed for the new coach and management group
Warhippy
Also, love to see Oates hired as the assistant or associate coach with Trotz if that is the case.

BabychStache
The Benning/Trotz combo will be extremely well respected and formidable around the league. I expect these 2 will be here for a long time and work to repair some of the damage caused by the previous regime. The media loves both, and the players will benefit from having stability. Trotz coached the shutdown style because of the players he had. You don't go full offense when you have Suter/Weber as your horses. I expect a very disciplined style of play that will encourage and harness the players ability. Puck possession will be a really emphasized and a need for a PMD will need to be addressed ASAP. After Kesler single handily picked apart the Preds I doubt he will be moved. Trotz is probably only interested if Kesler stays. He's never had a player like that at his disposal.
