WZRD
The Seattle Seahawks' 6th round draft pick wasn't able to pass his physical due to a rare heart condition however the day after finding out about his condition, the Seahawks still signed him to a first-year salary including a reported $100,000 signing bonus. Classy move by the organization. The Seattle Seahawks drafted offensive tackle Garrett Scott out of Marshall with the No. 199 overall pick in the sixth round, and while he has already been waived, the team decided to help the young man out. During his pre-employment physical, the Seahawaks discovered a rare heart issue, forcing them to waive him with a non-football illness. However, according to Curtis Crabtree from KJR Sports Radio in Seattle, the Seahawks will still give Scott his full signing bonus, adding: If Scott clears waivers, he will revert to the team's injured reserve list. His contract would pay him $303,000 for the year plus his signing bonus. While his signing bonus is unknown, last year's 199th overall pick, RB Theo Riddick of the the Detroit Lions, received a $91,000 signing bonus. Scott's figure is likely similar. General manager John Schneider released a statement Friday regarding Scott, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Wilkening, saying, “We think highly of Garrett as a person and as a football player. The team is committed to supporting Garrett in the months to come and will continue to help him determine his next steps.” While Scott's NFL future is in the air, he'll at least have some help financially thanks to the signing bonus. King Heffy
Signing him alsomakes him eligable for the league program for rookies for budgeting money. Hopefully he managed to either complete his degree, or is only a few courses short.

Who do you think the Seahawks would have signed in the FA with all that money they saved? No in impact player chooses a team over that kind of money and if they used that money along on a FA the only players who take contracts like that are 3rd string/practice squad players. You can't even get a FA kicker with that money. It was a nice gesture but far from having any affect on the team.

Classy move. It doesn't affect their cap situation or anything money wise. They have one of the richest owners in the NFL so I don't think money is an issue. Maybe just get your head out of your behind.

Grapefruits
Would Francesco ever do this? Doubt it. He likely would have hired him at minimum wage to work in the concession stand though.
