J.I.A.H.N
If we were to keep everything status quo (Keep and resign everyone from last year) except put Stastny in for Kesler, would there be much difference in out come in the 2014-2015 season? SamJamIam
The thing is, why not keep Kesler AND sign Stastny? We have boatloads of cap space after giving raises to RFAs and adding a rookie to the roster. If Stastny even shows interest, we just need to buy out Booth to make space for him. Absent Canuck
The last thing we need next year is a weak wildcard spot or finish 9th. Tank you fools.Tank!!! Please dont be signing UFAs for max to avoid the unavoidable.

To be honest, I am not all that concerned about trading Kesler, unless we get a massive over payment...and I mean massive.....I think Kesler would look good with Stastny, but I am just wondering what everyone opinion is. Bottom line, I just want to know what CDC thinks about whether we would be stonger or weeker.....that is it.
Gollumpus
I'm assuming things would be better, partly because of player additions, but mostly due to the change in coaching (whoever that guy will be), and a change in the style the team plays (eg. PP, PK and 5v5). regards, G.

PowerAids
Tough to say, I think stastny would provide more offense but we would be worse defensively. I think you could have the exact same team as last year and have a way better year, sometimes a team just has an off year. Not that's what I hope to see next year, some fresh blood would be nice. Please dont be signing UFAs for max to avoid the unavoidable. I hate the notion of hoping for failure next season. I could tolerate it at the end of this season because we were already out of the playoffs, but I can't hope the team does poorly before the season even starts. Jester13
Depending on how healthy the team remains this is a tough call, so... I don't know.
Honky Cat
By resigning everybody from the 2013-14 season,I assume your including Tortorella...Could Statsny play the hard minutes Kesler did..?..doubt it..so it would be worse...way worse.

That wasn't the question though. In response to OP, I think we would would be the in the 20-25 range. Same squad but older and yet another system to adjust to. Even if Stastny finds magic with the twins and they start running the PP show ala 2011, our secondary scoring still has Higgins and Burrows being our fourth and fifth best forwards. Not ideal in the slightest.

Baka
Canucks would be better. Defense is more about the unit than the individual. With Kesler almost entirely out of the line up last season they were still a top 10 defense and this year with him they fell out of that but still played around the same defensively with or without him. Plus defense is much easier to get than offense. Many defense oriented players do not make much or cost much via trade. If the Canucks made an effort they could easily assemble a reliable defensive 4th line to help out. Ether way the Canucks real downfall was offense. If I counted correctly the Canucks scored 2 goals or less in 47 games this season. If they get a player who can add another point here and there it could easily make a big difference in the Canucks wins and losses. You won't win to many games when you have to hold a team under 2 goals in most of your games to win.
Tystick
We really just need to add someone like Stastnsy and a goaltender to the roster and I could see improvements next season. Plus the addition of ELC's and a bounce back year for everyone, Coach lets players be creative in the offensive zone. Sedin - Sedin - Kesler Burrows - Stastny - Kassian Shinkaruk - Horvat - Santorelli Higgins - Richardson - Hansen Hamhuis - Bieksa Edler - Tanev Garrison - Corrado Miller? Hiller? Bryz? mpt
If we get Stastny we need to move Kesler to the wing. He seems to only pass when playing with highly skilled guys (ie Sedins)

Quoted
Better than last year for lots of reasons, but not good enough. Bigger changes are needed.

I have thought long and hard about the political correctness of it. However, I love this hockey team and its the best thing we can do for the long term. I still cheer for them and wont cry a river if we win the game. However, if we wander around like a bubble team, I will cry more than a few rivers. No chance to win and no chance at a franchise draft pick. Especially this year coming up.
