v3n
So I was looking at Robyn Regehr's stats. And I was surprised he was a 1st round pick. Then I realized in 1998, Colorado had 4 (FOUR) 1st Round picks. I'm guessing they must have made a lot! of trades that year? 1 12 12 COL Alex Tanguay L CAN 6' 1" 195 QMJHL Halifax Mooseheads 1 17 17 COL Martin Skoula D CZE 6' 3" 226 OHL Barrie Colts 1 19 19 COL Robyn Regehr D BRA 6' 3" 225 WHL Kamloops Blazers 1 20 20 COL Scott Parker R USA 6' 5" 240 WHL Kelowna Rockets 1 4 4 VAN Bryan Allen D CAN 6' 5" 220 OHL Oshawa Generals 2 4 31 VAN Artem Chubarov C RUS 6' 1" 205 Russia Moscow Dynamo 3 10 68 VAN Jarkko Ruutu L FIN 6' 1" 204 FNL HIFK Helsinki So I guess the question is what team has had the most amount of 1st Round picks in a single draft? There must be a record by a certain organization? But imagine if the Canucks had four 1st rounders in the draft this year!
Absent Canuck
They did. The 98 draft was the deepest in years and they had so much talent floating around they sold some of it off to get those picks.
Jägermeister
Scott Parker 20th overall... after he was an unsigned 3rd rounder in 1996... Shows that even some of the best teams make stupid picks from time to time.

It doesn't look that deep to me..... I don't remember seeing many big names in the later rounds at all.

Ghostsof1915
Going back to 1990 Columbus had 3 in 2013, Rychel, Wennberg, and Dano. Colorado had the four previously mentioned. Calgary had 3 in 2013, Monahan, Poirier, and Klimchuk. Edmonton had 3 in 2007, Gagne, Plant, and Nash (No not that Nash). Florida had 3 in 2010, Gudbranson, Bjugstad, Howden. Los Angeles had 3 in 2003, Brown, Boyle and Tambellini. New York Islanders had 4 in 2004, Connolly, Pyatt, Menzei, Kudroc. Ottawa had 3 in 2011, Zibanejad, Noesen, Puempel. St. Louis had 3 in 2007, Perron, Cole, and Eller. If you count 1989 Toronto had 3, Thornton, Pearson, Bancroft Washington had 3 in 2004. Ovechkin, Schultz, and Green, 3 in 2002, Eminger, Semin, Gordon. Vancouver Canucks best is 2 first rounders (Along with other teams I haven't mentioned). And not 1 first overall in team history. Nuxfanabroad
I recall Col wasting some of that future-depth in acquiring Theo Fleury. Lucky for us they made some bonehead deals, early-naughts.
zombieksa
Trade Eddie to Tampa for #19 and NYR (26-29) Trade Kes to Anaheim for #10, #24, Theodore. 6, 10, 19, 24, 29 plus an early 2nd rounder... Not bad.

Absent Canuck
It doesn't look that deep to me..... I don't remember seeing many big names in the later rounds at all. Lets refresh your memory ........... http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl1998e.html If it doesnt automatically list the prospects per games played, then click the tab. it will show you the players in order of games played. Late round picks include ; Brad Richards jJaroslav Spacek Chris Neil Pavel Datsyuk Eric Cole Micheal Ryder Andre Markov Michael Samulesson Rob Scuderi Francios Beauchamin Brian Gionta Ales Kotalik These are the guys drafted in the 3rd round or lower. Pretty good draft.
