2014 NHL Draft Goalie Prospect: Joel Daccord

Recommended Posts

At first, during this year, my favorite goalie was Thatcher Demko, like everybody else. Then it was Elvis Merzlikins because of that gorgeous stickhandling and movement in the crease. Then it was Ville Husso's impeccable stature and unflappable...ness. Then it was Zach Nagelvoort. Then, for the longest time, I liked Kasimir Kaskisuo because of his character and skill.

Really, I usually have an idea of who I like, goaltending wise, because I play the position and always look into what goalies are available in the draft, but this year there hasn't been anybody who's really made me go "Wow, he'd make a great goalie pick in the draft"... until now.

Meet Joel Daccord.

Sizable stature at 6'2.5, 191lbs and very, very athletic.

Currently plays for Cushing Academy of the United States Hockey League, not a very respectable league because it is so high scoring, but, in turn, belts out some amazing goaltending talent.

Joel comes from a breed all his own. Hybrid? Sorta. Butterfly? Moves swiftly in-crease and outside of the crease to play the puck. Battlefly? Yes.

He is going through the same goaltending training program that Cory Schneider went to, Stop It Goaltending. They have been known as one of the best goalie training programs in the world for quite some time, very expensive.

The thing is, Cory Schneider went to the top. He was goalie-coached by the headmaster/owner himself, Brian Daccord. Wait, doesn't that sound familiar? Ohhh right! Joel Daccord's dad!

Joel Daccord's father, Brian Daccord, has consulted with the Bruins for their goaltending, the european leagues in SEL, and now started, and owns/operates Stop It Goaltending alongside Cory Schneider.

Don't believe me? Wikipedia it. (Sadly, Wikipedia can be useful at times...)

Joel Daccord has quickly become my favorite goalie in this year's draft class.

I can truly say "Wow, he'd be a great goalie draft pick" about this one.

Didn't even bother reading it because of the font. But as of right now we're pretty good for goalie prospects. Give Markstrom some time in the AHL and he'll turn some heads.

True, but I've been looking high and low for Cory Schneider replacements and I'm drooling at this guy's potential to be that.

I miss Schneiderman so much :(

We didn't get enough for him...

I want us to take a goalie in this draft, all our goalies are 24 or older so this draft is a perfect time to pick one up. By the time our goalies enter there prime this one will be entering the AHL.

What round do you think Daccord will be taken?

can't find much about him online besides he was taken in qmjhl draft 2013, 185th overall(11th round) so id say he could be a late round gem.

Well done Snyp's, have never heard of him before and I'm not too sure what everyone else is complaining about.. We need goalie prospects, we need all kinds of prospects. I would be totally happy with us taking Thatcher Demko with our 2nd if he's still available. Joel would have so much time to season in junior and the A with our currently goalie "log-jam". Even if he doesn't play, if we can flip him later on in his development for more than the 4th-7th round pick we would spend on him, thats a win for us.

I tried to read that, and you told us very little about the actual prospect and more about how his dad runs a goalie school. Why the hell should anyone draft him other than he has 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon with Cory Schneider?
