carlweezer
D-men are never as sexy of a pick as a Forward. The flash and dash isnt there. Fleury is clearly the 2nd best Dmen available in this draft. Would you be upset if thats who we draft with the 6th pick?? reports are coming out that Benning has a ton of interest on Fleury w. multiple interviews with him this week. Unfortunately the last time the Canucks took a high draftpick Dman, 10th overall pick Luc Bourdon (RIP), we missed out on a franchise player Anze Kopitar 11th overall pick. Its unfortunate and who knows how good Luc could have become. It seems we are at that cross path again. Fleury will be surely available at 6th pick. Is it so bad if we draft a possible top pairing Dman. Fleury skates like the wind, and has been compared to Bouwmeester So lets say nobody falls out of the top 5, we Draft Fleury over Virtanen, Nylander, Ehlers, Ritchie How you feel about it??? here is scouting report on Fluery Team: #4, Red Deer, WHL Position: Defense Shoots: Left Height: 6’3 Weight: 198 lb. Projection Type Player: Jay Bouwmeester/ Brent Seabrooke Assets: Big, Very Mobile, Strong, Great Vision, Smooth Shut Down Dman Potential NHL exec on Red Deer's Haydn Fleury: "It's hard to find defensemen like him: size, skating and (hockey) sense." -Ryan Kennedy Our list of prospects on D is very very poor and thin. Theres no gurantee with Corrado, Hutton hasnt signed yet, and others dont wow you out of the rink ( Mcneney, Liberati, Cederhold, Sauve, Mcnally, Subban,Tommernes) It might not be such a bad thing to add a blue chip prospect like Fluery to that list. Besides the list of forwards available on the top 10 next year is ridiculous: McDavid, Eichel, Barzal, Zacha, White, Strome, Konecky
BobSacamano
It's enticing for sure. Perhaps trade down to get him? I'd like to see it depend on the return of Kesler if/when he is traded.
Robongo
I think they would trade down if they were to pick him. Or they could be doing their due diligence in case they acquire say the 10th overall in a deal with Anaheim. I'd be ok with Fleury , but we need high end skill up front in the pipeline so I'd be kind of upset if we passed up on that.

Carolina, who picks 7th is absolutely dead set in love with Fluery and theres no way they pass on him http://cardiaccane.com/2014/05/27/haydn-fleury-dark-horse-pick-carolina-hurricanes-2014-nhl-draft/

CynideSnipe
No. As much as we may need a defenseman. (And we do) But there is no real defenseman worth drafting this year apart from Ekblad. Therefore, we will draft a forward. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Future Canucks Top Line: Drouin - Horvat - Jensen
awalk
I don't see myself being upset at the pick no matter who it is. I'm not a scout, I'm just a fan, and none of us knows how these players are going to end up.

Sure the Rithchie's and Naylander's have potential but they also have as big of a chance as busting so why not gamble on a Dman. Stud Dmen are harder to trade for than stud forwards. TOMapleLaughs
Yes. He's not at 6th and Linden even said that quality d-men can be found later on in drafts. Or heck, even undrafted. (Tanev?)
Warhippy
Yes I would as we have needs at the forward position and a serious logjam on D at the NHL AHL and soon to be the prospect levels. Fleury solid pick if we have the 10th as well as the 6th, Sanheim with the 24th. But no not at 6th
carlweezer
If he turns into a Shea Weber, hell yes, I'd be more than ok with it. Ive never heard of a scout or an analyst describe him as that type of potential or player. He doesnt have the bomb of a slapshot He is always compared to: Offensively- Jay Bouwmeester Defensively- Brent Seabrook

TheGreatCanucks
I don't see us picking a defensemen in the 1st round. Even Linden said they will most likely go with a forward. But if they do pick Fleury, I honestly don't care as long as he ends up developing into the player the management expects him to.
Toews
Hows he not at 6? Bob Mac has him ranked at 6th Craig Button has him ranked at 9th Future Consideration has him ranked at 9th ISS has him ranked at 8th Nearly every year people are surprised that a flashier prospect dropped in the draft while teams drafted the solid more dependable player. I think Fleury will go a lot earlier than people expect him to. He is a much safer pick than many of the high upside yet risky in the top 10. King Heffy
I'd be fine taking him if we manage to get the 10th from Anaheim, where there'll still be a decent option at forward left.
Bure_Pavel
I think we need a LW, there hasn't been that many great natural LWs drafted over the last 10 years especially outside of the top 5 and I think that is a strength in this draft.

nuck nit
Potential top-4 NHL d men are coveted. Benning was a #6 pick and he should know if he is worthy as he himself was much the same kind of player.
