NHL Draft Combine: Jake Virtanen unable to participate due to shoulder injury

Recommended Posts

Bit of a question mark over Jake Virtanen's head with the shoulder injury he is recovering from. Supposed to be 4-6 months.

Watching the coverage of the preliminary medical examinations, was impressed with Sam Bennett's comments.

Shows a quiet intelligence and an understanding of the areas he needs to improve.

Far as I am concerned, this guy is the real deal. It's almost impossible he will still be around from the 6th pick, but if he is, the Canucks should not hesitate.

Sam Reinhart also shows good maturity and I have no doubt he will be ready for the NHL very soon.

Again, unless we trade up, unlikely to be around... but a definite keeper.

Where are you watching the Draft Combine coverage?

I'm guessing with this shoulder surgery, Virtanen's gonna drop to the late first round or early second round.. Watch either Chicago, LA, Anaheim, or San Jose pick him up. No doubt he'll be picked by a Western Conference team and for some reason, I have a strong feeling the Ducks will take a chance at him and draft him in the first round. (of course, using their own pick and not Ottawa's 10th overall

Sam Bennett is going to be the best forward drafted this year.

He couldn't even do one pull-up at the combine. He better get some working out done in the off-season.

Bennett was disappointed he was unable to do a pull-up, one of three new tests at the Scouting Combine this year, but shrugged it off when questioned during his post-fitness media scrum.

"My upper body isn't really my strong suit," Bennett said. "I was disappointed in myself; I always want to do the best I can in every test but I guess ultimately games aren't won or lost if you can do a pull-up in the gym. So I'm not too worried about it."

All that really shows is he just needs to mature a bit more, and work on his upper body strength. Adding upper body strength is easy, just likely means he's not ready to jump right into the NHL.

Lot of worse things that prospects, could, potentially need to work on.

  • Hockey IQ
  • Poor Skating
  • Poor Vision
  • Work Effort
  • Stonehands
  • Basketcase ie; Kirill Kabanov
  • Russian Factor. . . :bigblush:

Not sure how many of you are over 6 feet and 200 lbs and played, but if you are and you played with an edge, your shoulders were hammered year after year.

I had shoulder surgery, once healed, good as new. I am not worried about ritchie or Virtanen and shoulder injuries.
