timberz21
Also, Staal only wanted to go to Carolina.. Not comparable at all Carolina was an obivous match, but I doubt he only wanted to go there. Plus Staal didn't have an NTC, Pittsburgh could have traded him anywhere. From what we hear, Kesler doesn't want to go anywhere as well (6 teams?) so, actually it's kinda of similar. Pears
And you have a hard on for Kesler, what's your point? Of course, you and all of these Kesler lovers, will overvalue him. He's your white knight. The truth is, his numbers have decline since the Cup finals, he isn't a top end player, certainly not a guy who can carry a team (where was he during the stretch, when the team was fighting for a playoff spot?), his play has been inconsistent, and he's known to have injury issues? So why on earth would any GM mortgage their future, for a guy who has all those negative traits? This isn't NHL14, where you can con the AI, so that you could get the better of the deal. I don't have a hard on, I just don't have a pathetic hatred for Kesler like you do. Posters like you make me happy that you aren't GM, because you'd more than likely just throw Kesler away. AppleJack
Question: What will you be doing with your Kesler jersey... once he's gone? 1) Wear it with pride,... still? 2) Wear it again,...when he returns to play as an opposing player? 3) Wear it again,... after he retires? 4) Retire it to a drawer or closet? 5) Box it up as precious memorabalia? 6) Wear it to paint the garage? 7) Give it away? 8) Throw it away? 9) Burn it? Mine is autographed so I am probably going retire it, frame it and hang it on the wall. I probably will do this regardless if he is traded or not. RUPERTKBD
I Could be for spezza rumour is they got two good offers for spezza Well I, for one, hope that it is. A player like Spezz is exactly how I'd like to see a division rival spend their money.

Agreed. Ducks should pay through the nose for Kesler if he's going to them. They can afford it, but will they trade the future for a real shot at the Cup? Somehow I doubt it. TheTruthHurts
You can tell who watches alot of hockey and who doesn't by how badly they butcher player names. You can also tell who has a life and who doesn't.

peaches5
RFA doesn't mean anything. He wasn't about to walk to UFA. So actually the team that would trade for Staal, knew they could lock him up for long, Kesler could walk to UFA after 2 years. He was a pending UFA not RFA
aliboy
Then make a counter point on why his value is worth high, instead of calling me a Kesler hater. It's simply a matter that there are a number of teams out there who feel Kesler is what they need to effectvely compete against other top teams. The Ducks likely feel that with him they might win the series against LA, the Blues likely feel they would compete and win against the Hawks, Ducks or Kings. Pitt needs that second line center, and Philly and Detroit may feel the same. He's worth what another team will pay and we will likely see a pretty decent return. peaches5
wrong. Staal was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin and the Hurricanes 8th overall selection at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (which the Penguins used to select Derrick Pouliot) on June 22, 2012. The trade unites Jordan with his older brother Eric. While both Sutter and Staal were 23 at the time, Staal was only one season away from unrestricted free agency while Sutter was three seasons away. What people expect from a Kesler return, is the moon and sky. That's not likely going to happen, especially when there are other options for teams in the trade market and free agency. If a team does overpay for him, that's great for us. But I don't expect much, and neither should Canucks fans.

peaches5
wrong. He started playing in the NHL in 2006-07 thats 6 years with pittsburg prior to being traded carolina 7 seasons and you're an UFA. He was going to carolina in a year and everyone knew it.

But I don't expect much, and neither should Canucks fans. We can expect quite a good return, as many teams will see that those options don't put them where they need to be. For instance, the Ducks and Blues won't likely see Speeza as an option, as they need a player who can shutdown some of the best as well as contribute offence. The options are actually quite limited when some of these teams consider an option in comparison to Kesler.
CroSen
I am not as confident as others that we are going to get some "super deal" out of this. Kesler got another year older this year, and thanks to the media other teams know he wants out. I would be fine with a good prospect or two and a high draft pick.
