With the up coming draft people are saying trade up, trade down, stay at 6. I want to know where CDC stands.

Advantage to trading up.

You get to choose between Reinhart,Ekbald and Bennet

You are getting a superstar

You are getting a 70-90 point forward or 40-50 point d-man in prime

Advantage to trading down

Get picks and prospects coming back in the deal

Staying at 6

Hope someone in the top 5 fall

You don't give up any players

I probably wouldn't want to trade down unless we picked up an extra 2015 first from a team who could possibly have a lottery pick. Trading up is a possibility for me as we can use the log jam of center prospects and NHL level 3rd line type players to move up. If something like Gaunce, 6th, + another piece got us up to pick 2, I'm game.

Stay or move back. I don't understand when people want trade away more assets for a higher pick in a draft class where there is no superstar player. Ekblad is the closest thing to it.

Would you consider guys like Hall, Duchene and Seguin to not be superstar players?

Here are some of the recent top draft picks points-per-game in their draft year.

Taylor Hall: 1.85 ppg (1st overall)

Sam Reinhart: 1.75 ppg

Nathan MacKinnon: 1.70 ppg (1st overall)

Tyler Seguin: 1.68ppg (3rd overall)

Nikolaj Ehlers: 1.65ppg

Leon Draisaitl: 1.64 ppg

Sam Bennett: 1.59ppg

R. Nugent Hopkins: 1.57ppg (1st overall)

Jonathan Huberdeau: 1.56 ppg (3rd overall)

Matt Duchene: 1.38ppg (3rd overall)

Gabriel Landeskog: 1.25 ppg (2nd overall)

People underestimate the skill and potential of the players in the top 4. If you think they're just going to be 2nd line players than you know nothing about this draft. The problem with the draft this year is the depth not the top end talent.

If Benning can trade up for the right price to get one of the top 4 then its definitely worth it.

Where is Ehlers? 104/63 = 1.65ppg

The top 7 imo are pretty good. Other than Ekblad, I don't see a superstar. Reinhart could turn into that superstar but is he worth trading up for? What if he doesn't turn into that top line center?

Bennet is undersized. How long till he develops?

Draistil lacks foot speed. (If he can improve his speed he's the best player in the draft imo)

Dal Colle??

Ehlers is explosive but he's not the type of guy you build your team around.

Virtanen is injured. Guaranteed top 9 but there's risk

Nylander is small and inconsistent

Rithcie is a huge wilcard

Perlini is skilled but doesn't engage physically

See my point...

This years draft is weak. Next years draft is widely regarded as being the strongest draft year, competing with 2003 in both top end skill and depth. It makes no sense to trade up in a weak year.

If the Canucks want to get back to being competitive in the West in a hurry, then they need to stockpile 2015 picks. We will not be competitive next year and possible not 2015-16. I would love to see Linden / Benning trade our 6th overall for 2015 picks.

Trading up is indicative of instant gratification. Trading down makes sense if you take a long term view.
