J.I.A.H.N
I have posted something simular in Canucks talk, but thought it was better to get it over here, At the 2014 draft Kesler and 2016th-1st rounder for Florida's 2014-1st overall and Bjugstad Edler for NY Islanders 2014- 5th overall and 2015-2rd rounder Schroeder for Carolina's 2014-3rd rounder Florida's 1st overall for Edmontons 2014- 3rd overall and 2015-2nd rounder 2014-1st Round 3rd overall we pick ........Reinhart or Bennett 2014-1st Round 5th overall we pick.........Dal Colle or Vartenen 2014-1st Round 6th overall we pick.........Hayden Fluery 2014-2nd Round 35th overall we pick.......Glover 2014-3rd Round 65th overall we pick........BEST Defenseman available 2014-3rd Round 66th overall we pick........BEST Player available At the 2015-trade dead line Trade Higgins, Burrows for 2015-2nd rounders At the 2015 draft Vancouver's...........1st Round 2015-15th overall..............Best Player available Edmonton's............2nd Round 2015-37th overall.............Best Defenseman available NY Islanders..........2nd Round 2015-42nd overall............Best Defenseman available Vancouver's...........2nd Round 2015-45th overall.............Best Player available Higgins...................2nd Round 2015-50th overall.............Best Player available Burrows..................2nd Round 2015-51st overall.............Best Goalie available Vancouvers............3rd Round 2015-75th overall..............Best Player available Now you wonder why, so many defensemen, but we have been drafting forwards in the opening rounds for the past 4 or 5 years, and by 2016, we will have a well rounded supply of Centermen and wingers, and I will be hoping for a defensive gem to fall to us in the second round, which is where most of your top end defensmen come from.....2015 being a strong draft, we should have a very good chance of doing just that. I would suggest that in 2016 we pick another goalie in the second round also, as they take time and not everyone turns out. I am not adverse to putting 2 of the 2015 2nd rounders together to move into the later half of the first round if the player we want is sitting there and the pick is available. Possibly moving our first rounder up the draft several spots would be another good option. At any point, we would surely have a solid prospect base, as well as a lot of good young NHLers ready by the time these boys start to develope. Scouting would be the most important asset these next couple of years, I am sure!

canucks155
Kesler wouldn't waive and Bjugstad isn't that much worse than Kesler. He's also younger and can grow into a 1st line center. Horrible for the Isles and Edler wouldn't waive Sure I would rather keep the 1st if we got it and draft Ekblad or Reinhart Sure to the Higgins and Burrows trades
eQuilibrium
None of these trades would ever happen. You are overvaluing Edler SIGNIFICANTLY! Why would NY trade their top pick and a 2nd rounder for the worst +- player in the NHL last season who is not that young anymore.
Grape
1. Kesler won't waive to Florida 2. Edler won't waive to NYI 3. Even if Kesler waives, him and a first won't even get the first overall pick, let alone Bjustad. 4. Edler is barely worth a low first round pick 5. I still think Schroeder has potential, so i wouldn't trade him for just a 3rd rounder 6. If we do manage to get the first overall pick, there is NO way we're trading it down unless someone offers us something completely mind blowing. A third pick and a second rounder won't do it IMO. But...... There is no way that Bjugstad is close to Kesler right now, yes he is big and young, and yes he has potential, but it has not been realized yet. The first is in a poor draft year, and as I have heard many times, there are no super elite picks this year. Now it may come to pass that some of these picks do over exceed their potential, but that is 4 to 5 years away. From what I have heard, Talon is ready to ice a competative team this year and Kesler would put some butts in the seat and would be a darn good leader for these youngsters they already have. Kesler in his own right is very top end and has many qualities alot of elite players do not have....maybe not elite per say, but certainly a star in his own right. As for Edler, he probably won't wave for anyone, but who's to say he wouldn't go to NYI if he would wave for anyone. Have you ever heard him say he doesn't like NYIslanders? Yankee bucks look pretty good right now..... he won't go.....but he had Tortorella last year playing him huge minutes, and who is to say that if he had cut down on the minutes he would have handle both the O and the D better.....we will never know.....but he is a pretty good O Dman and is worth a 5th and 2nd if he turned it around.....maybe a conditional 2nd? I have been wrestling with the trading of the first every time I think about it....is it worth a 2nd rounder...probably not,,,so I guess we keep the 1st overall. You win that one! So only thing I would like to point out is we really don't know.....this is all just conjecture and wishful thinking, but like I said, I am bored and want our Canucks again, so this is the only way to pass the time. Am I right, probably not, but if I hit it on the head, I would be reminding evreyone I was! LOL..... PS Just having fun! Keep up the great posts, I enjoy reading yours! Flame away!
