SOB for MVP
Prospect Rankings (Position - Name - Junior Team - Height/Weight) Top Prospects 1. LW Jeremy Noble - Orangeville Northmen - 5'9" 170 lbs - DRAFTED BY ROCHESTER Noble is a heart and soul player with a ton of talent. A natural leader who makes everyone around him better. The only knock on him is that he’s 5′9”, but forget about that. It doesn’t matter. He’s good enough that his height is irrelevant. Noble scored 6 points a game in his final junior season as he led the Northmen to their third Minto Cup in five years. And besides his talent and leadership, he’s a character person. The kind of player you can build a team around. 2. RW/D Ben McIntosh - Maple Ridge Burrards - 6'2" 200 lbs - DRAFTED BY VANCOUVER The third of the Coquitlam Big Four to hit the draft in consecutive years (after Matthew Dinsdale and Robert Church and ahead of Wesley Berg), McIntosh is an elite scorer who can play a transition role and has a history of winning. He’s scored 24 points in 9 games as a rookie with Maple Ridge this year and should only get better with more Senior A seasoning before next year’s draft. 3. RW Mark Cockerton - Whitby Warriors - 5'10" 175 lbs - DRAFTED BY PORTLAND Cockerton has some of the best hands in the draft. His sick stick skills make him a threat from anywhere in the offensive zone. He twice scored more than 40 goals in Junior A and probably would have all at least once more had he played full seasons. 4. D Robert Hope - Peterborough Lakers - 6'2" 192 lbs - DRAFTED BY MINNESOTA When you watch Hope play, the first thing you notice may well be his rather awkward running style. The next thing, though, will probably be how solid a defender he is as a rookie in MSL. Hope was an outstanding junior defender and has improved by leaps and bounds through his first season with the senior Lakers. And as for the running style—Thursday night he kept up stride for stride on a long run covering the fleet Kedoh Hill, so while it may look weird it gets him where he needs to go. 5. RW/D Kyle Aquin - Brooklin Redmen - 6'2" 205 lbs - DRAFTED BY COLORADO Joined the Oakville Rock for this MSL season without a lot of fanfare and made an immediate impression with his shooting. Enough of an impression that the Redmen demanded he be part of the trade when they sent the rights to Adam Jones and Nick Rose to the Rock for the rights to Jesse Guerin and Shayne Jackson. Aquin has 19 goals in 15 games between the two teams this summer. 6. RW Eli McClaughlin - New Westminster Salmonbellies - 6'1" 175 lbs - DRAFTED BY PHILADELPHIA Yet another talented lefty forward in a draft that is loaded with them. McClaughlin, who was traded from Delta at the deadline this year, led the BCJALL with 60 goals and totalled 103 points. He’s followed that up with 9 goals and 5 assists in four playoff games so far. 7. LW Matt Crough - Peterborough Lakers - 5'10" 165 lbs - DRAFTED BY EDMONTON A sniper with quick feet and great hands, Crough scored 154 goals in four junior seasons and has followed that up with 18 goals in 19 games in the MSL. Crough doesn’t get a ton of floor time or touches with the Lakers’ veteran right side, but he never complains and just makes the most of the chances he gets. Will be a nice depth addition with a positive attitude for whoever grabs him. 8. LW Mike Triolo - Brooklin Redmen - 6'8" 215 lbs - DRAFTED BY BUFFALO Triolo bounced around his last year in junior and felt the pressure to score goals for the teams that acquired him. He’s loving his role with the Redmen, which is to use his huge body (6′8”, 215 pounds) to open up space for his talented teammates and bury chances when he gets them. He’s chipped in 8 goals and 19 assists for 27 points in 19 games. 9. LW Dan Keane - Brampton Excelsiors - 5'9" 155 lbs - DRAFTED BY CALGARY Three straight 70-plus-point seasons in Junior A show that he’s a solid complementary scoring threat and set up man who can shoot some too. 10. LW Dan Lintner - Whitby Warriors - 5'9" 175 lbs - DRAFTED BY TORONTO In five seasons of Junior A lacrosse, Lintner has put up the following goal totals: 33, 38, 54, 49, 50. That’s enough to make it clear that the kid can score, which is always a valuable asset. 11. RW Mike Melynchenko - Brooklin Redmen - 5'11" 195 lbs - DRAFTED BY BOSTON Athletic and shifty, Melnychenko has been a nice addition to the Brooklin offence with 16 goals in 17 games. He’ll need to develop other aspects of his game over the next year, but so far he’s shown the potential to play a bigger role down the road. 12. RW Todd Nakasuji - Oakville Buzz - 5'9" 160 lbs - DRAFTED BY ROCHESTER It’s always hard to tell how Junior B stats will translate to the higher levels of the sport, but Nakasuji appears to have a chance to grow his game. He’s scored 50 goals and 56 assists for 106 points in 24 games over three seasons with the Buzz and has added 59 points in 19 playoff games. He’s small but quick and while his more likely future is CLax, the waterbug type could land a look from someone intrigued by his raw talent. 13. G Warren Hill - Six Nations Arrows - 5'10" 185 lbs - DRAFTED BY VANCOUVER Hill was the top goalie in OLA Junior A in 2012 and had another strong season in 2013, even if it wasn’t quite as consistent as the summer before. He went 8-2 with an 8.16 goals against average this summer. Hill makes the saves he’s expected to make and plenty of saves that take your breath away. He’s an acrobatic goalie that will need to continue refining his positioning to make the transition to the pro game. A good prospect for a team that needs a solid backup now who can develop into a future starter. Best of the Rest: 14. D Sheldon Burns - Brooklin Redmen - 6'1" 185 lbs - Solid defender that can be relied on in almost any situation. - DRAFTED BY ARIZONA 15. LW Paul Brebber - Nanaimo Timbermen - 6'2" 190 lbs - Puts up points. Solid on the offensive side of the ball - DRAFTED BY MINNESOTA 16. D Trent Hawke - Coquitlam Adanacs - 5'11" 195 lbs - speedy defender, not afraid to play on the edge and look for the big hit. - DRAFTED BY COLORADO 17. LW Matthew Delmonico - Coquitlam Adanacs / Port Coquitlam Saints - 6'2" 180 lbs - Can put up points, when he is not injured. Often found himself on the sidelines in his Jr career. - DRAFTED BY BOSTON 18. LW/D Brandon Benn - Orangeville Northmen - 5'10" 190 lbs - more offensive than defensive, won a Minto Cup with the Warriors in 2012 - DRAFTED BY EDMONTON 19. D Matt Melnyk - Okotoks Raiders - 5'11" 185 lbs - defensive player of the two brothers. Players hard, never not been on a team with Tyler. - DRAFTED BY BUFFALO 20. RW Tyler Melnyk - Okotoks Raiders - 6'0" 195 lbs - offensive player of the two brothers, set up guy. Can put up big numbers if put with a goal scorer. Never not been on a team with brother Matt. - DRAFTED BY BOSTON 21. LW Tom Schreiber - Princeton University - 6'0" 190 lbs - Number 1 overall pick in the MLL, and already playing well as a rookie, averaging more than 2 points per game. Fast, smart, with a quick release on his shot - DRAFTED BY TORONTO 22. D Daniel McDermott - Delta Islanders / Langley Thunder - 6'2" 180 lbs - natural leader on defence. Leads by example, as well as off the floor - DRAFTED BY PORTLAND 23. RW/LW Peter Baum - Colgate University - 6'1" 185 lbs - Fast and quick, finesse forward who could adjust to the tougher indoor game. DRAFTED BY ARIZONA 24. LW Miles Thompson - University of Albany - 5'11" 185 lbs - his brother Lyle is draft eligible next year, with his cousin Jeremy on the Edmonton Rush, and his other cousin Ty draft eligible this year. Miles knows how to put the ball in the net - DRAFTED BY VANCOUVER 25. D Patrick Miles - Brampton Excelsiors - 5'11" 155 lbs - may be small, but he is feisty. Often dirty, but plays hard. - DRAFTED BY ROCHESTER 26. G David Mather - Burnaby Lakers - 6'4" 290 lbs - big goalie, who did exceedingly well with a mediocre team in front of him. - DRAFTED BY CALGARY 27. D Sam Goodman - Coquitlam Adanacs - 6'1" 210 lbs - Coquitlam's tough guy, solid defensively as well - DRAFTED BY MINNESOTA 28. D Chris LaPierre - Virginia University - 6'3" 210 lbs - converted football player is a monster short stick defender from UVA and now in the MLL. Could be a force in a league that awards toughness. Needs time to develop but is an amazing athlete - DRAFTED BY COLORADO 29. RW Quinn Smith - New Westminster Salmonbellies - 6'0" 190 lbs" - Set up guy. Loves to pass. Averaged 2.5 assists per game in his last season or Junior. - DRAFTED BY PHILADELPHIA 30. C Brendan Fowler - Duke University - 6'0" 210 lbs - Plays special teams for Duke's football team as well as being their two time all american face off guy. No stick skills but can win a draw and run - DRAFTED BY BUFFALO 31. LW/D Tyson Roe - Nanaimo Timbermen - 6'10" 245 lbs - no arguing his size, but he does not always use it. Would need development. 32. D Brandon Smith - Victoria Shamrocks - 6'3" 230 lbs - Solid defender. Plays the body, good positioning. - DRAFTED BY CALGARY 33. RW/D Conrad Chapman - Victoria Shamrocks - 6'6" 220 lbs - helped back a solid defensive core in Victoria. One of Victoria's big boys, plays PP and PK for Victoria. - DRAFTED BY ARIZONA 34. LW Macgregor Johnston - Nanaimo Timbermen - 6'2" 190 lbs - put up some solid offensive numbers on the Island, hoping to translate that offensive success to the NLL - DRAFTED BY CHICAGO 35. D Adam Bakular-Evans - Nanaimo Timbermen - 6'4" 215 lbs - was a leader on the backend for the Jr Tmen. Was never a flashy player, but has a solid defensive game 36. D Joe Fletcher - Loyola University - 6'2" 185 lbs - Lock down defender who made the national team for outdoor while still in college. Also needs to develop but is a smart, simple defender with a lanky build 37. C Cory Cop - Port Coquitlam Saints - 6'1" 180 lbs - Face off ace. Rarely lost a draw in Junior. Scores most of his points by dishing it off on the draw 38. D Mike Bosch - Langley Thunder - 6'5" 205 lbs -Two words describe Bosch, big and mean. Amassed 211 PIMs in his 3 seasons with the Thunder. When he is on the floor, he is not on there to score goals. - DRAFTED BY BOSTON 39. G Derek Anderson - Victoria Shamrocks - 6'4" 270 lbs - Was never a starter in Junior, but always served as a reliable backup. - DRAFTED BY CHICAGO 40. RW Ty Thompson - University of Albany - 6'0" 185 lbs - cousin of Miles Thompson, and Edmonton's Jeremy Thompson. Has played his best lacrosse when playing with his cousins. Full list of draft eligible players - http://www.swarmitup.com/2013EDParticipantsPictureRoster.htm Overagers (draft eligible) D Mike Woods - University of Albany - 6'2" 200 lbs (Drafted IRL by Toronto in the 2nd round) - great defensively, good at forcing turnovers and getting loose balls. - DRAFTED BY EDMONTON LW Brett Dobray - Langley Thunder - 5'11" 175 lbs (Drafted IRL by Vancouver in the 3rd round) - All about the offence. Can do anything on the offensive side of the floor, had 94 points with the Thunder last season. - DRAFTED BY TORONTO D Reid Mydske - New Westminster Salmonbellies - 6'3" 200 lbs (Drafted IRL by Edmonton in the 4th round) - younger brother of Edmonton's Brett Mydske, defensive minded like his brother as well. - DRAFTED BY CHICAGO D Emerson Clark - Whitby Warriors - 5'9" 180 lbs (Drafted IRL by Toronto in the 4th round) - renowned for his toughness when he drops the gloves despite not being the biggest guy on the floor, can play tough, physical defence D Blair Goss - Orangeville Northmen - 6'0" 205 lbs (Drafted IRL by Vancouver in the 4th round) - Goss was a solid contributor to the Northmen’s D unit as they won Minto Cups in 2009 and particularly in 2012. Like so many of the Northmen’s back door grads, he plays a sound defence-first game and has a good sense of when to run in transition D Taylor Northway - Delta Islanders - 6'0" 203 lbs (Drafted IRL by Rochester in the 4th round) - defensive leader for the Islanders. Not much offensive skill, but he makes up for it with his defensive awareness and leadership. - DRAFTED BY PORTLAND LW/D Dom Sebastiani - University of Delaware - 6'0" 190 lbs (Drafted IRL by Colorado in the 5th round) - fast defender who can get the ball up the floor. RW Alex Lubczuk - Kitchener Kodiaks - 6'0" 190 lbs (Drafted IRL by Toronto in the 5th round) - not a dirty player, but will hit anything that moves. Never tires, always giving 100% on the floor. LW/D Brendan Rouse - New Westminster Salmonbellies - 6'1" 190 lbs (Drafted IRL by Vancouver in the 5th round) - depth player that doesnt have flashy attributes, but will work hard on both sides of the floor. Not afraid to defend a team mate. LW/D Zac Reid - Mercyhurst University - 6'1" 195 lbs (Drafted IRL by Rochester in the 5th round) - Reid’s calling card is versatility. He was a solid defender with the Athletics but a high-scoring middie at Mercyhurst University. RW/D Kevin Pym - Okotoks Raiders - 5'9" 160 lbs (Drafted IRL by Buffalo in the 6th round) - good transition game that will open up scoring chances. Small defender may be hard for an NLL game. RW/D Brendan Ranford - New Westminster Salmonbellies - 5'10 182 lbs (Drafted IRL by Calgary in the 6th round) - former draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, and current member of the Texas Stars AHL team, Ranford is a rugged defender who has used both sports to refine his defensive game. LW/D Jake Weidner - Brampton Excelsiors - 6'2" 175 lbs (Drafted IRL by Colorado in the 6th round) - pass first player who is more than happy to walk away with the assist rather than the goal. D Nicholas Jonas - University of Minnesota - 6'4" 240 lbs (Drafted IRL by Minnesota in the 6th round) - big stay at home defender who is known only for his defence. Helps his team mates by not spending much time in the penalty box. RW Dylan Goddard - Clarington Green Gaels (Ontario Jr B ) - 5'10" 175 lbs (Drafted IRL by Buffalo in the 6th round) - Look up a Gaels scoring record and Goddard probably owns it. He’s scored 125, 123 and 120 points in the last three seasons. The reason he’s not higher on the list is that he’s only played four Jr A games in his career. It’s just difficult to say how immense success in Jr B will translate to the professional game. G Brandon Styres - Six Nations Arrows - 6'3" 235 lbs (Drafted IRL by Rochester in the 6th round) - son of Knighthawks owner Curt Styres. One of the few good goalies that Iroquois has produced in recent years Full list of overagers - http://www.swarmitup.com/2013EDParticipantsPictureRoster.htm
