I think you also have to give Huntelaar a lot of credit. Hadn't played a minute of football in the WC, then 5 minutes after being brought on, he takes an unstoppable penalty against the best 'Keeper in the tournament...

yep, and also why they let him take the PK, freshest legs out there, lesser chance of a cramp up and missing the shot

Agreed it was a penalty. That said, Robben did throw himself out there, which leaves a bad taste.

There have been quite a few suggestions to combat the diving, which seems to have reached epidemic proportions in this competition. One of the best ideas, IMO, is a match review process, by which players could be assessed a yellow retroactively.

That being said, if such a situation were currently in place, Holland would still be going through. They just might have had to do it without Robben.

true...I think Holland would have won in OT anyway by the way they were playing in the 2nd half.

The scary thing, (if you're a Dutch fan) is how perfect it was. I think it might have hit the side netting before it hit the back.

I had a flashback to the last PK taken by Chile...

Well, now that I can relax somewhat until next weekend, it's time to watch some football without fear of a heart attack.

As a North American, I guess I'll have to cheer for Costa Rica. (Of course, that will all change on Tuesday when Belgium plays the US ;))

who would have thought in the beginning that

spain, italy, england, and portugal would all not make it out of their groups

and greece, switzerland, and belgium would

go figures

Well, based on their groups, Switzerland and Belgium not making it out would have been a big disappointment for both nations (especially Belgium).

Greece is just sort of fluking along as is. Hoping Costa Rica picks up their game here and crushes them.

Hmm, that is true, Switzerland and Belgium really got lucky with their group draws

to be honest, Belgium was a surprise to me (a good one) since I didn't know much about their team.

They look good, and could be a darkhorse for the next euro cup and WC
