Bure to Mogilny
Des gars comme (Thomas) Vanek et (Max) Pacioretty, tu ne peux pas garder ça dans ton équipe. Qu'ils restent chez eux s'ils ne sont pas prêts à payer le prix. Ton équipe ne gagnera jamais avec des joueurs comme ça qui s'effacent lorsqu'il y a de l'adversité http://www.lapresse.ca/la-tribune/estrie-et-regions/201406/03/01-4772497-guy-lafleur-il-ne-faut-pas-se-contenter-dune-bonne-saison.php?utm_categorieinterne=trafficdrivers&utm_contenuinterne=cyberpresse_B13b_canadien_427188_section_POS1 Rough translation: "Guys like Max and TV, you can't keep them on your team if they're not willing to pay the price. Your team will never win with guys who disappear when they face adversity." For those who dont know Lafleur use to play for the habs and was one of the top players in the league. Legend Killer
It's true, Patches is not a character player, and he's inconsistent.
Junkyard Dog
Patches is till young and Vanek is a pending UFA. Both are good players I would try to keep if I were MTL.
Absent Canuck
Habs will never meet Vaneks salary demands but Patches is going nowhere.

LeanBeef
Vanek was useless that last game, looked like he was playing without a blade on his stick.
Tearloch7
The Flower would have been the greatest forward in NHL history if: 1) He was 'protected' by the League like Gretz and Mario were 2) He did not smoke up to 3 packs a day Ask Don Cherry how good Guy is/was .. Ehlers
If Montreal gets rid of Pacioretty because they lost in the ECF without a starting goaltender, then they are pretty stupid. Patches is a great player.
Herberts Vasiljevs
I thought Patches was pretty good tbh. Vanek was garbage after the 1st round.

RonMexico
Vanek was worse but Patches was just as guilty of pulling a disappearing act despite the ice time he was getting. These guys are goal scorers and when they don't produce, the finger of blame is pointed their way.
JeremyCuddles
Patches I would not consider dumping. Vanek I think is a tad overrated. Like Nash when he was with Columbus. After he left he looks average.

Hes in the hall of fame and supports the troops Discuss It's obvious Pacioretty has payed the price... but he recovered and has established himself as Montreal's primary goal scorer. I do not understand the rationale behind Lafleur's comments... makes no sense.
Western Red
Vanek was always a rental, and one of the better ones I can remember EVER. He played very well throughout the playoffs. AV shut everything down with last change and completely stifled MTL.Goaltending wasn't the issue with MTL. Watching the series in its entirety will lead most to believe that losing the first 2 games indicated that MTL had a hard time adjusting from playing vs. the Bruins.MTL was still the better team IMO. terrible.dee
Patches I would not consider dumping. Vanek I think is a tad overrated. Like Nash when he was with Columbus. After he left he looks average. Nash IS average, It was sad watching the Blue Jackets try and build around him for years, like he was Crosby or someone. As far at the topic goes, NHL'ers/Fans/Media are SO reactionary. A guy has a bad couple of games and all of a sudden he's "Not a playoff guy" or "The reason we didn't win the cup" Like in 2011 when everyone said we weren't big/tough enough for the Bruins. We went 7 games, it could have gone either way and in the Hab's case Vanek and Patch were simply on cold streaks at the wrong time. The variables that separate winning from losing in this league are vast and many are uncontrollable. It really comes down to who's hot at the right time. Pears
Pacioretty is the backbone of Montreal's offence, not a chance they trade him unless it's for the moon. But really, if Price never got injured even though Tokarski did his best to replace him, it's arguable Montreal could be in the Final instead of New York. Jiggs50
Pacioretty is on one of the biggest steal of a contracts in the entire league. No way I get rid of a 6'2 forward who will pot 30 regularly
