Darren Dreger: “Marleau and Thornton are two names that are legitimately in play and it could get ugly in SJ due to their NMC”

Been seeing a lot of people speculating that Thornton/Marleau could be moved since the team wants to move into a another direction. Obviously they cant move them if Joe/Patrick say no becaus they have NMC's in their contracts.

Should be interesting to see how SJS does handle this situation

UPDATE:

Leafs interested in Sharks centre Joe Thornton

I highly doubt it they move them especially this early. They just got extended and would be a bad rep to just ship them out this fast. If anything it'll be next offseason if they fail to make the WCF or trade deadline if they are doing real bad.

I beg to differ. They stated they are going into rebuild, if anything it does not only the organization a favor, but the players. Say the players went to FA and didn't extend their contracts? Well they still have the option of where they want to go with there NTC's. They get a great fresh start, and can go to cup finalists, or turn teams into cup finalists, unlike the Shark's as they are now. Boston has a bad rep, but not for this reason, ALTHOUGH they signed, then traded Kessel. Same with LA trading Jack Johnson, it's not as big of a deal as CDC seems to think.

I know a move like this would seem like bad management, but I think it was a great move by Wilson to sign Thornton and Marleau to short contracts incase another playoff no show happened. That way they could still get a solid return for both instead of potentially losing them for nothing.

I've been lurking here for just a little while.

I have a newby question that most of you will probably laugh at.

Go right ahead, I can take it.

What is the "CDC"?

I doubt either gets moved. They should just stay the course. They had a great reg season, and lost the first round because Vlasic was injured and they didn't have anyone to fill the void.

They just need to make a couple of depth moves and they'll be fine.
