He's a free pick up just like Fox, it costs you nothing other than money you don't have to use a draft pick, you don't have to trade an asset plus we're short of left wingers. I'm not sure how the team stands with the 50 man roster, seriously what's the down side

When a player's in demand, the down side is having to pay more rather than a value signing like Fox. Then if that player wants to play in the NHL or needs promises of his icetime, position, etc. but then you find they aren't ready, you might have that max level ELC stuck in the AHL - or worse, they bolt back to wherever they came from.

The amount of contracts we already have is another issue as you mention, but since we aren't getting in and doing so for cheap before everyone else then there's some risk. You have to think he's a quality player that'll fit in your system to really want to go after a guy.
