nuckster33
Yes yet another re-tool post but I thought I would post one that to me makes alot of sense and is likely realistic/achievable given all that is going on in terms of Kesler, other vets etc. My proposals are not that out of this world and would make our team very competitive now in the West and in the future. None of these suggestions are anything 'new' but I think, as I said are doable and make sense. 1. Kesler to Anaheim for Smith Pelley, Vataanen, and number 10. May be expecting alot here and I can see many arguing Anaheim will not do this but, given their window is NOW, and they NEED Kesler, to really fight the beast that LA has become, it really will be the cost. Perhaps Gaunce goes with him, but I suspect Benning will expect at least this much back given both Smith Pelley and Vataanen are still prospects and a pick while high, as we all know is a crapshoot. 2. Hansen and Garrison to the Isles for Matt Martin and a pick (2nd/3rd/or 4th rounder). NYI get a couple of vets they need to help their team and are really giving up at best a 3rd liner. Sure, most hits in the NHL and speed but 2 for one, especially the addition of a veteran Dman, given vets are needed and they really have no D, and they need to make the playoffs next year to drum up interest in Brooklyn. I don't see this as unreasonable and I think if anything we may be over paying but given the value Martin would bring to our group (think Torres w/out the hands), its worth it. 3. We then MUST sign Stastny. We can slot Horvat into number 2 if required but that would be rushing him in my view. The above (1 and 2) are arguably doable and manageable, this signing is the wild card, one can never guarantee a UFA, but we will be able to over pay if required. 4. We would then have Number 6 and 10 in the draft. Could we parlay this to number 1 for Reinhart, likely but personally I would not. At six we draft Nylander, at ten either Virtanen, Ritchie or Fleury, whomever is left and bpa. If FLA would take Smith Pelley and number 6 I would do it. But that's it, no movement of Tanev in my view makes sense given we wouldn't select Ekblad and Tanev is our best D prospect right now. Tanev and those two picks are worth more than Reinhart. Our line up would then have size, skill, youth and speed on every line, and allow Shinkaruk, Cassells, Gaunce more time in the minors along with our first round picks. These are not 'drastic' or unrealistic/unexpected moves. We also see a very competitive group for the future. BI3KSA-
The first trade isn't realistic at all. The second one is the worst trade I've ever seen in my entire life. The third is possible and a good idea if we are looking to win now and he doesn't ask for a huge contract.

The third is possible and a good idea if we are looking to win now and he doesn't ask for a huge contract. isnt realistic? why? please shed light those two names and a pick have both been mentioned in the press, both are prospects and have proven nothing at the NHL level. if we were trading for a top line / 2c who was the 1c on an olympic team, was a great 2 way selke winner with a very attractive contract you dont think the other asking for a jensen and corrado and a pick would be expected? not to mention anaheim's window is now, and there are no players like Kesler available to help that team, supply demand and team needs also dictate willingness. Anaheim still has its pick at 24, they have Theodore as a young offensive D prospect in their system. You have to give to get, the Canucks are not trading one of the best 2 way centers in the league for simply picks, that is reality. Second, thanks for your input, worst trade you've seen in your entire life hey? interesting. Great input, like it, value add right there Third, he's 28 and we are looking to win now as well, if you haven't paid any attention to Benning and Linden and had any understanding of hockey you'd realize we had a bad year and this team can make the playoffs. This is why they don't want to tear it apart, but then again you know more than Linden and Benning. Thanks for your valuable insight, I'll be sure to never waste my time reading your posts again. CanuckFanForever1123
This thread fell apart awkwardly in a hurry... Yes to number 1 if Anaheim accepts. I see no reason we would say no... Hell no to number two. Not trading a quality 3rd line player and a top 4 (yes I think more highly of Garrison than others) d-man for a freaking 4th line just because he's a beast. Yes to Stastny if, and only if, Kesler is traded, and his cap hit is 6.5 mil or less. No to Stastny if his cap hit is higher.

Yes to Stastny if, and only if, Kesler is traded, and his cap hit is 6.5 mil or less. No to Stastny if his cap hit is higher. Ya, I am just not much of a Garrison fan. Perhaps I didn't watch him close enough, but found him to lack mobility/lateral movement, not very fast, and he doesn't use his size, even though he's jacked. If we got him playing with an edge, more physical, making up for the lack of skating not so against him. I just think for a 5/6 he's redundant and overpaid. And he sure didn't hit the net enough for me to think he had anything other than a career year in FLA the year prior. Missed the net way too much on the PP. To me, I see more value in letting Corrado play and if we get a guy like Vatannen back in the Kesler deal, there really is no need to be paying a guy 4.25 to be a 5/6 dman. Hammer/Tanev Edler/Vataanen Stanton/Bieksa Corrado is a very very very deep d group that can literally split time evenly...for me its about that and the cap relief it brings. can we get more, if we can, sure get more but Martin is a key player, the type we need here I also don't think Stastny's cap hit will be less than 6.5. He is a solid 60-70 pt center that is an effective play maker and is only 28. He will command in the 7's given the lack of centers in the UFA mkt. This is the conundrum of moving Kesler and not getting a young 2c who is roster ready coming back, we create a big hole for next year. I suppose we can hope Horvat can make the jump and surround him with vets or pray Schroeder if given the chance can really show he can play there, with some big/effective wingers. Ie Burrows Sedin Jensen Sedin Horvat/Schroeder/Kassian To me that is much less appealing than overpaying by a mil a year
terrible.dee
Please stop with the "sign Statnsy" stuff, He has one decent year on a stacked team and people are either forgetting or never knew the type of player he is. Let me remind you all... Statsny is one of the most passionless, disinterested players in the league, he's had that rep for YEARS, why do think the Avs haven't locked him up yet? I would laugh if the Canucks signed him, he would, within a month or two, be the most hated player in years. The fans here would CRUCIFY him. However, Stastny knows this and would NEVER sign in a hockey market like Vancouver, He wants as little pressure and attention as possible, look for him to sign in PHO or FLA,

However, Stastny knows this and would NEVER sign in a hockey market like Vancouver, He wants as little pressure and attention as possible, look for him to sign in PHO or FLA,ok lets see how many false comments you've made 1. One good year? Stastny has 458 pts in 538 NHL games, on that pace he'll be a 1000pt player when he retires - FALSE STATEMENT NOT ONLY ONE GOOD YEAR 2. Stacked team? In his rookie season Joe Sakic was 37 and the leading scorer on the team, and indeed had a terrific year racking up 100 pts, Stasnty had 78. The following year, Sakic was 38, played 44 games and had 40 pts. Stastny had 71pts on a team barely over .500 The next year Sakic was done and Stastny had 36 pts in 41 games, followed by 79 pts the following year, and as many know who pay attention, towards the end of Sakic's career the Avalanche were no longer 'stacked'. In fact the year after he left they started to suck very badly and miss the playoffs, wouldn't call that 'stacked'. 3. Why the Av's haven't locked him up? Well they did give him a 5 year contract prior worth 33 million son, that's pretty much a very high salaried deal. Given they now have A. Duchesne as their number 1, Mckinnon pushing already B. O'Reilly as their number 2 C. They don't particularly NEED ANOTHER OFFENSIVE CENTER who will garner 6-7 million on the UFA market, easily money that can be spent elsewhere since they don't have a need for a number 1/2 offensive center when they clearly have 2 of the best 1c's in the league and a hell of a 2c in O'Reilly - kind of too much wealth ya know! 4. As for your clear anger towards this man, as though he spat in your mother's face, well I can't help you. What I would suggest, is that in the future, before you make a fool of yourself, do some research, that way you might prevent yourself from saying,....well the stupid things you just said. Oh and by the way, the Denver Post says its actually Stastny who is holding off signing with the Av's and that the Av's want to get a deal done. The issue is as above, Stastny is more concerned about his role with the emergence of the young guns...whoops! Facts are facts son! toodles! Hockey Stache
Wow! I never come in to these threads when they go off the rails but this time I just had to make a comment. Nuckster33 - I was kinda with you having your little rant about Kesheniel's first post being entirely uneccessary. I ca't nnot understand why so many posters here can't provide some constructive criticism to another's post. If you feel the proposal is not worthy then offer up some reason you believe that. Don't insult the poster. Weak Kesheniel, weak. Unfortunately, Nuckster33 you kind of bring it on yourself by attacking terrible.dee. You make assumptions of terrible.dee's anger and suggest what they should do to "prevent yourself from saying stupid things". Too bad you have made a fool of yourself by flying off the handle at a poster on a message board. Not once but twice in the same thread. Unfortunately, much like twitter, message boards don't allow you to know the person on the other end. For all you know, Kesheniel and terrible.dee could be 10 year old kids. Does that make you feel any better if you knew you were insulting young kids??? Shame!!! Too bad about this thread because I think that your proposals are all pretty close. I just believe the Isles trade is a bit too much to be trading for 4th liner. Hansen alone could probably get you Martin straight up. I do agree we do need someone that bangs more like Martin. BI3KSA-
I never insulted anyone. He did insult me, though. Attacking someones opinion or idea of something is not the same thing as attacking them. There is a gigantic difference between saying "your idea is stupid" and actually calling someone stupid. Lastly there is no rule about how long or descriptive someones post has to be. He posted it here to get peoples opinions and thats what he got. I would have explained it better had he asked instead of flying off the handle like a 12 year old.
