Kelser for Neal?

There's been a lot of rumors coming out of pittsburg lately that the Penguins are quietly shopping right winger James Neal. We all know how much they covet Ryan Kelser. Neal would be a dream fit to play right wing with the twins. He's a big mean sniper. Kesler would give the Penguins that 3 line punch they have missed since Staal's departure. Seems like it could be a fit for both sides in a straight up trade. Thoughts?

Do we really want a player who already has a bad rep for being dirty? Dirty player + Canuck = penalty box.

In all seriousness I don't think his play style would work too well in the west. I personally think his stats are bit inflated playing with Crosby/Malkin.

uhh, Neal is 26.

yes, and how does Kesler for Neal trade help us long term. Now missing second center. We have little prospect depth. We aren't looking to win next couple of years realistically. Does he resign? Why our team won't be great.

Neal, as a Canuck, would be suspended for half the season, and sit in the sin bin for the majority of the other half he plays.

We better be looking to win while the Sedins are here because nothing is happening after that. Kesler for Neal would be great. Hopefully try to land Stastny and we are set.

You put more thought into it than your post alluded to. I figured it was an age thing you were worried about.

Your post has been vindicated :)

Maybe thats where a deal with Florida comes in. Perhaps getting that first overall and taking Reinhart. He could probably play second line next year. Plus sets up for top center role when Hank leaves.

Does kesler resign? If we aren't realistically contending how does keeping kesler help? How does a 26 year old, hard hitting sniper NOT help the canucks down the road?.. At least as much or more than a declining, injury prone, supposed trade-asking kesler with only 2 years on his contract?

Are you really that daft?

Neal proabably has the third best one-timer in the league after Stamkos and Ovie. Those players are rare. Pure snipers. His GPG are third best in the league also. Youre right about his numbers being better with Gino, but one could also attribute that to development as well. Not really fair to compare him at 21 to him at 26.

Pitt probably values Neal more than they do Kesler.

Neal has very well done well with him, while they don't know how well Kesler would do with them. To big of a risk in my opinion.

They want to be over the top, so they probably want to keep Neal and but still add Kesler anyways.

Pouliot, Sutter/Bennett and a 1st is my asking price.

Blue chip OFD prospect who could win a spot next year, a young roster forward with size with either Sutter or Bennett and a late 1st which is still a good prospect (Jensen, Gaunce and are late 1st round picks).

We would be without a legitimate 2nd line C unless we hope that someone steps up to the plate or pick one up with the extra cap in FA

This is a good retooling trade but I would rather trade elsewhere. Pittsburgh isn't exactly swimming in young talent and early 1sts unlike other rumored teams Kesler would waive to like TBL or ANA.

Kesler for Neal would be awesome. I wonder if these rumors flying around about us moving up to get the top pick are realistic, and a winger could be traded instead of Horvat...

Kesler for Neal

Shink, 6th, small piece for first pick

Draft Reinhart

Sedin-Sedin-Neal

Jensen-Reinhart-Kassian

Higgins-Horvat-Burrows

Then when Henrik is near the end, bump up Reinhart and Horvat one line each. Presumably by then we would have replaced Shink with a good winger too from a draft pick.

Man, if we traded Kesler for Neal then got Reinhart without giving up Horvat, our team is scary in a year or two, and even scarier in the future.

No chance Pitt makes that trade. With the success Pouliot had at the end of the year and in the playoffs his stock is so high right now. Canucks could maybe get him and their first, but to add a promising prospect like Bennet? Dreaming!
