JohnScott
TRADE #1 - PHI Edler, Kesler (30% ret.), Hansen, 3rd (2015), 5th Simmonds, B.Schenn, Morin Philly needs to get better defensively. They trade 2 of their young core, but receive one of the best 200ft players in Kesler, a PKer/Grinder in Hansen, and a top 4 Dman in Edler, who IMO would prosper in a new environment. Morin is a nice prospect, but Philly wants to contend now. TRADE #2 - TOR Tanev, Higgins, Gaunce, Grenier, 1st, 2nd JVR, 1st (draft Fleury) Toronto's defense is messy and their forward depth is weak. With this, they acquire one of the best young shutdown D in Tanev (native of Toronto) who has some offensive upside. Also, they gain a hard-working middle 6 player in Higgins who can play in all situations. On top of that, a future 3rd line checker in Gaunce, a solid prospect, an early 2nd round pick, and the move from 8th ovr to 6th. Making this even better for Toronto is that with the acquisition of Tanev, they can ship out Phaneuf or another of their defensemen for another goal scorer, which would help their forward depth. SIGNINGS Kassian: 2yrs @ 1.5m B.Schenn: 2yrs @ 3.25m Nikitin: 4yrs @ 4.75m Niskanen: 4yrs @ 6m 2014-15 LINEUP (4m in cap space) SEDIN - SEDIN - SIMMONDS JVR - SCHENN - KASSIAN BURROWS - HORVAT - JENSEN MATTHIAS - RICHARDSON - KENINS HAMHUIS - NISKANEN NIKITIN - BIEKSA STANTON - GARRISON LACK MARKSTROM (not sure if that lineup wins it all, but 2015-16 is our best chance) 2015-16 LINEUP (Player performance by goals in brackets. Listed respectively from left to right) JVR - SCHENN - SIMMONDS (33,23,35) SEDIN - SEDIN - JENSEN (22,15,25) SHINKARUK - HORVAT - KASSIAN (19,18,22) MATTHIAS - RICHARDSON - BURROWS (12,7,14) HAMHUIS - NISKANEN (5,12) NIKITIN - BIEKSA (5,8) FLEURY - CORRADO (6,6) LACK (2.3GAA) MARKSTROM (2.7GAA) ^By 2015-16 hopefully Lack's developed into a true starter ^Garrison traded for picks/prospects ^By 2015-16, hopefully Schenn has grown into a fringe 1C, putting up approx 55pts ^JVR, Simmonds, Matthias would be entering prime (around 27yrs by 2015-16) ^Niskanen, Nikitin would be in prime (29yrs by 2015-16) ^Ability to roll all 4 lines ^GOALS FOR: 246G scored by forwards + 42G scored by Dmen = 288GF(this year, Chicago lead with 267) ^GOALS AGAINST: If Lack has 60GP@2.3GAA, it equals 138GA + Markstrom has 22GP@2.7GAA, it equals 60GA = 188GA (14 more than LA) ^But of course, anything can happen in the playoffs.. ^With the cap headed up, and quite a few of the 2015-16 roster young guys still on their ELC, this lineup should have plenty of cap space ^For minutes played, I was thinking (from L1 to L4) 19-17-16-8 *Leave feedback (interested to hear if you guys think the predictions are accurate)

PhillipBlunt
Don't leave me hanging Scott. I will say that the Philadelphia deal gives up too much from our perspective.
canucks155
Edler isn't waiving to go anywhere Apparently Kes declined to waive to go to Philly at the deadline.
terrible.dee
Still not sure about B. Schenn If he's a 2nd or 3rd line center Would also like to see some more assists from him, not as high on him as I once was Right now, his stats cast him as a high end 3rd line center, which what we are hoping Horvat will become. A third liner that can get you 30-40 pts. So unless Schenn is planning on pulling a Ryan Johansen, I don't see how he fits.

He's only 22, and in 2-3 years I expect him to have improved by a decent amount. 2015-16 and past that is what this proposal mainly focuses on. This is why I said not to comment or judge it until I finished writing.
asian player
I don't see the Sedins as contenders on any line in 2 years. The defense is meh and I don't see Schenn making it happen.
JohnScott
I don't see the Sedins as contenders on any line in 2 years. The defense is meh and I don't see Schenn making it happen. Please explain. Then sign a UFA Dman with plenty of cap. There are some notables on this list that could be a fit: http://www.capgeek.com/free-agents/?year_id=2015&team_id=-1&position_id=D&fa_type_id=2 He's a 40pt guy as of now. If JVR and Simmonds continue to produce at a 60-70pt pace, and Schenn can grow into a 55pt guy, thats fine with me. That 2015 lineup has enough depth for it to be okay to not have an absolute bonafide 1st line. If those goal predictions I made are close to what would actually happen we should be beyond fine. Nuxfanabroad
Quick glance, but appears to be sending too much to TO. I think we've got to go fwd with the twins on an experimental basis. If they're getting back to their standards(especially Daniel), we could consider bold moves like this. If they don't hit their high-water mark(eat 3 mill/cap), & send them to contenders for their last couple seasons. edit-2nd look, that's WAY too much to TO. Drop our 1st, at least.
