TheRussianRocket.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/oilers-to-make-major-announcement-on-friday/Katz Group to make major announcement FridayBob Nicholson. (Nathan Denette/CP) The Katz Group, owners of the Edmonton Oilers, have called a news conference for Friday and its speculated Bob Nicholson will be named vice-chairman of the organization. The expected announcement will take place at 10 a.m. MST. Nicholson was president and chief executive officer of Hockey Canada for the past 16 years. He stepped down on May 31. Canadian teams have won 44 gold at world championships, Olympics and World Cups on Nicholsons watch. Secondary source:http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=722573 Comes as a bit of a surprise Bob would choose Oilers over Vancouver since he was born here in Penticton. Oh well. Loss for the Canucks as a man of his calibre is invaluable. Hope he can help turn things around in Edmonton though - would've rounded off our management group had he signed. Nicholson, Linden, Benning. What could have been...best of luck to him
Coconuts
Disappointing, I was kinda hoping he'd end up with us. The Oilers? Can't say I wish him any luck with this job.

YEGCanuck
The word in E-town is Nicholson will initially oversee the development of the new downtown arena. Rogers Place is under construction and on schedule to open to start the 2016-17 season. Today a local talk show speculated Nicholson will ultimately take over hockey operations from Kevin Lowe. That would be a fantastic move by the Oilers. I hate them but they need to get rid of Lowe as soon as possible.

Twilight Sparkle
i think his speech would sound something like: "i'd like to thank the edmonton oilers and the city of edmonton for this opportunity... jk i'm joining the canucks" he says, after ripping an oilers jersey in half and chugging a beer ...it could happen
Canuck Surfer
Be bad news. First thing he might do is fire McTavish? Then the Oilers might actually progress to respectability.
DeltaSwede
Unlucky, really unlucky! Can't believe he would choose the Oilers over the Canucks. Maybe Vancouver weren't even involved and it was just rumours. He must have wanted a real challenge.

JC2
We don't really know how interested Linden and Benning were towards Nicholson or what kind of role he truly would of had in Vancouver, which is what it really came down to I think. It seems that he would have had more of a business role in Vancouver rather than a hockey role in Edmonton. Its a shame he didn't sign in Vancouver but even if he would have he would have been more behind the scenes and I think Linden and Benning have the hockey ops covered so nothing lost but nothing gained. sharnhayre
So basically Bob Nicholson is the new Vice-Chairman of the newly formed OEG (Oilers Entertainment Group). Katz will focus on business whereas Nicholson will focus on helping build the empire through his vision. Kevin Lowe got promoted to Vice-Chairman as well. Such a terrible move putting Lowe and Nicholson as equals.
