The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken the holidays as an opportunity to review our limited progress thus far this season. We were pleased to enjoy modest gains in the standings, digging ourselves a handful of spots out of the cellar at one point, but have leveled out of late, in large part due to the kinds of losses most teams are experiencing. With significant injuries to key players like Jacob Trouba, Boone Jenner, and Leo Komarov, as well as Andrej Nestrasil and our captain Pavel Datsyuk a consistent question mark this year, we have struggled to sustain any gains we have made in the standings. In addition, the course I have taken as a GM to get younger has resulted in a number of uncertain roster spots, as players like Morrow, Namestnikov, Donovan and Percy compete for NHL minutes, but also experience the expected setbacks of being scratched and/or assigned to the AHL. We have been pleased however to see some of our talented young prospects enjoy recalls to the NHL - Tyler Graovac, Calvin Pickard, Dominik Uher, Jesse Blacker, Lucas Lessio, Brandon Kozun, Joe Morrow, Vladislav Namestnikov and Stuart Percy all having enjoyed some NHL experience this season early in their careers, and we anticipate that a few of our other prospects nearing NHL readiness will experience the same before season's end. In any event, we are resolved to continue to make changes to improve our team in the future. Quality roster players like Matt Read, Matt Cullen, Mark Fayne, Reto Berra, Dominic Moore, and Matt Halischuk could all potentially be moved to further our efforts to that end.
