hard not to wonder if jake's teammates might be getting sick of his immaturity and lack of buy-in.

j.t. miller has these guys -- somehow, suddenly, out of the blue -- ready to start winning, and if jake doesn't start pulling the rope as hard as he can he's going to get left behind and replaced with someone who will.

my gut tells me he's gone before next season, masked as a cap casualty.

I think he's packaged and 'masked' as moving depth at wing for a right D.

Well that’s what the media wants you to believe.

a near 25 goal pace and career year wasn't a big step fwd?

It has always been his play away from the puck and his intensity.

His offensive production has always just been a bonus.

Even if he was only a 15 goal pace, if he hounded the puck like Burrows or Hansen, there would be minimal complaints.

Not going to get too hung up on a scrimmage performance, but definitely does leave me with some questions how Jake will respond when the games mean something and the intensity calls for the player to rise their level of effort and overall play.

I'm excited for the playin series and potential run into the playoffs because it will allow us to see how some of the young players will respond when it really matters in games.  Can they lock down and really hone in on the details and fully commit themselves to the process of the game?  This is the main question I have for Jake Virtanen, does the Jake who took a huge step this season show up or does the old narrative of his commitment level come into question again?

Virt has all the physical tools - but, but ... a bit of tough love from the captain - gotta fkn love it.  The passion from Horvat transcends ... Jake, wake the F#$@ up and be the player you can be ....

absolutely, at this point its good to see how intense the players are.  They see an opportunity to do something here and want full commitment and buy in from everyone.  Sorta glad we get to see that in our group moving into the playin series.

Well said by Nazzy.  There’s no doubt that JV took a step forward but that was then - this is now.  There’s very little room for error and virtually no runway to get up to speed.  We will see how it plays out - I’m hoping that (perhaps with the help of the likes of Horvat) we get the new and improved Jake consistently.

It was the same song and dance it September.......to the letter.  In fact it's the same sing and dance every year, even though he's shown steady improvement every season.

Well seems it’s the same old song and dance from Jake, I will give you that.  Doesn’t appear his captain was to thrilled with his ‘steady improvement. The consistency is not there and I don’t think Jake needs to look to far over his shoulder to see Zack M bearing down.  Don’t get me wrong I’m hoping for playoff beast mode from JV - we will see ...

The same old song and dance is from fans, not from Jake.

Probably a little bit of a wake up call (again)... but no question he is going to have a short leash when games start up again.  There are roster replacements for him.

I genuinely hope he plays in the playoffs and does well, because his trade value tanks of he is in the press box in favour of Loui Eriksson of all people.

Hmm, a plethora of RWers with Podz and Lind also possibly joining at some point next season, possible cap issues around the bend, an out of shape Jake again. Not to mention his antics with taking selfies while driving and hanging around a strip club with no mask. I find him to be selfish and lazy. He almost scored a career high 20 goals in his 5th season - almost.

I'm not that impressed for a 6th overall. If he took things more seriously and had more respect for his team mates, maybe I'd think differently.

I think he's gone before the end of the 2020/21 season. In fact, wouldn't it be wild if Benning made a move at the Draft? Canucks need picks.
