Having him in the line up has got to be better than having Ericksson in there?

The only advantage I see to have Jake in over Eriksson is that sometimes Jake can get off a good shot that will go in the net.  That's about it, as he is otherwise only slightly more of a physical presence than Eriksson (despite his potential to be so much more).

Pretty sure we'd have to add for that, given DeBrusk's overall stronger career so far.

May be worth something...

An ok 6th from 2014 for a better successful 14th from 2015.

deBrusk

209 - 62 - 59 - 121

Virtanen

290 - 51 - 45 - 96

+?

I don't understand why Boston would do this deal?

Virtanen is the lesser player between the two. Debrusk has had a 27 goal season already, where Jake has never cracked 20 goals (yet).

Virtanen + Gaudette for DeBrusk perhaps?

We need someone in the pipeline who can take over third line center duties.

I think Gaudette would be a great winger, not so much a centre.

Is Virtanen and Gaudette an overpayment for only DeBrusk?

Yeah I definitely would look at a young 3C before DeBrusk.

Maybe Zacha?

Have a feeling that Virtanen will break out with the B's if he's traded there.

But at the same time, he's not thriving here, and he'd be quite expensive to qualify when his current deal will be over. I think if Jake does remain, this is probably his last contract with the Canucks. Probably will be going the UFA route when he can. I wish him luck, because he's such a tease. But there's just something not quite right with Virtanen. He's lost motivation, he's not scoring, he's not hitting, he can't play the penalty kill, and he's not good enough to be in the top six, not great defensively to be a middle six player. Like, where does he fit in?

Is DeBrusk a better player than Virtanen? When I look at their stats, DeBrusk has scored more in less games than Virtanen has, but his year to year, he's regressed. Went from 42 points to 35 the next year, scoring 27 goals to 19, in two less games.

I don't see why the Bruins would want Gaudette as well if a trade happened.

They probably want someone to help them win this year. Probably a LW too since they're losing Debrusk.

If I were the Bruins I'd ask for Pearson. They can use the secondary scoring that can play in both ends. Can't trust Gaud in his own zone yet.

If they asked for Pearson with Virtanen they'd have to add.

Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet: The Vancouver Canucks have shopped forward Jake Virtanen before. Right now Canucks GM Jim Benning wouldn’t be dealing Virtanen from a position of strength.

Elliotte Friedman reported that the Canucks are also listening to calls on forward Adam Gaudette. Both Virtanen and Gaudette are 24-years old and were scratched over the weekend.

If Benning had received an offer he like before the draft this past offseason, Virtanen likely would have already been moved. The cap crunch and teams wanting to hold on to draft picks lowered the offers.

Comparable trades at the draft may have been Lias Andersson for the 60th pick and Ryan Donato for a 2021 3rd round pick. It’s believed the Canucks were looking for a higher pick for Virtanen.

If that's the deal, would you do it? Even if Boston had to add (what would they add to DeBrusk?)

Why did Benning resign him for two more years?

I think maybe there was belief that Virtanen could exceed his 18 goal pace. They were betting on him, and he hasn't lived up to those expectations (my assumptions).
