He needs to learn how to play with other players and not just float. He plays on a Calgary team with poor line mates so the best hope for him would be to get a trade and be on a team with strong cycling so he can learn that part of the game. The game he plays now won't cut it in the pros.

Completely agree, standing and waiting on the left side draw won't work

Virtanen didn't have a good period. That's fact. He got put on a line with players he hasn't played with at all so far. That's also fact.

It's one thing to predict his future off of this one period, but there's nothing wrong with saying he didn't play particularly well in it.

He didn't have a great period so let's hope he does better in the second. And then better in the third.

Buncha armchair coaches in here. The kids 18 years old. He has holes in his game, yes, but the harsh criticism is unnecessary. It's noted that he has to improve on his positioning. He will be the Canucks most exciting prospect/player in a few years time. You can't teach the hard nosed, nasty north south game he plays. Plus he has a pretty good shot.

Jake positioning appears better this period, and if he would scored instead of swinging and missing on the glorious chance than everyone would've shut right up lol.

Edit: and after the great pressure from that line the boys kept coming next shift and put 'er in

No man..

If Jeff Carter's skill set: {A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H}

Then Jake Virtanen's skill set: {A, B, C}

Jake has a long ways to go before he starts playing like Carter.

Okay, so Carter has almost 3x the skill set as Virtanen, and every skill Jake has Carter also has? So Jake does not have anything at all that Carter doesn't already possess?
