Alflives
We are seeing glimpses of Jake's ceiling. He controls the game with his size, skill, speed, shot, and natural aggressive nature. Get excited boys, he's something very special.

aGENT
The last couple months are why some of us were preaching patience. And even this is pleasantly far ahead of where I'd have guessed he'd be at this point.
MoneypuckOverlord
Kessler made the nhl at 19 , same age as jake (Kessler was a overager) but saying it right now, Jake looks like a better player then Ryan at the same age. Jake has better speed, stick handling and offence.

Kesler had 5 points in 28 games in his first year as a pro. so yes. if we're gonna judge the two players on statistics alone. Jake is already ahead of the game than Kesler was at the same age. with that being said. I'm encouraged to see Virtanen improving his game and finding more confidence. the kids got a wicked shot. he needs to shoot more. and I think he will next season. I think he finishes this season with close to 10 goals. not sure if he reaches 10 goals. but he'll be close me thinks. next season. I expect 20-25 points from him in his second season. that should be reasonable expectation for him. if he delivers more. that's just gravy. Boudrias
Amazing how the Virtanen naysayers have disappeared on this site. As per usual you do not use the ppg as the sole metric for measuring potential or results.

My earliest memory of Kesler was a fight he had with Iginla where both were chucking them pretty good.

Scruffy05
He is imposing his will on the game at 19 years old. Once his brain catches up to his body we may really have something here.

It astounds me the amount of vex this kid receives from the 'fans' here. I feel like I am constantly reading about how he'll never be a dynamic NHL player or how we should have drafted Nylander. I understand CDC has always needed a whipping boy, but we have Vey.. so I do not understand why it goes to Jake. This kid is a monster. We should be honored and excited that we get to watch this LOCAL kid grow into the future core of the canucks. Also go Jake, you've been playing great lately. Keep it up kid! Nylander scored! The Jake haters will return soon enough im afraid
Gaudette Celly
Tony Gallagher on Jake Virtanen: Quote I thought, he's just not very smart. But I was wrong on that. I see now he was just young. If even sour old Tony can repent, I'm sure the rest here can, too.

guntrix
The reason the doubters left was because there was no need for the argument to keep persisting. Now it seems like some members on here take that as if we've repented or something... it's as if they're itching to start another debate. Lol, and you say we're the ones with no lives. Jake was the wrong choice imo, I don't need to post here everyday to validate my pov here... although it's as if some people on here are sitting at the edge of their seats just waiting for it to happen. Why was Jake, in your opinion, the wrong pick for us? He's looking REALLY good as a nasty and skilled goal scoring, point producing, intimidating power forward. Ritchie is okay, I guess, but I prefer Jake's overall skill set.

I think jake is going to be a beauty of a player for us. recently. he's been playing really well. being physical. he's been shooting a lot more than he was at the beginning of the year. he's driving to the net a lot more. I think Virtanen and Nylander are different type of players. they will be effective in different ways. Nylander I think definitely has a higher offensive ceiling. Jake brings different elements to a game that Nylander perhaps doesn't have the skillset to do. Edited March 8, 2016 by N4ZZY

Jake and William are different players. Nylander registered one shot tonight against Buffalo. and was a -1. I think people might be too hard on these young guys. they are after all. 19. Jake's been improving his game all season. it's an improvement. people sometimes forget that most players drafted aren't Patrick Kane. or Jonathan Toews or Stamkos. the Sedins took a number of years before they became impactful players. Jake's trajectory this season is already quite impressive.

I don't think some people realize how special of a player Virtanen is. Has an elite shot, only 19 and is already faster and stronger than most of the league. He's also already one of the hardest hitters in the league and still looks like he's 17.... Once he matures and replaces his baby fat with more muscle he's going to be unstoppable. I think he'll be the undisputed best powerforward in the game when he gets to 22/23.

I think people had initially unreasonable expectations. as if every draft pick chosen had to contribute immediately or else they were busts. Virtanen was a high risk pick though in my opinion. should he fulfill his potential. he would be like you say. unstoppable. but if he doesn't. a sixth overall pick for a bottom six player is. well. not very good. no matter how you spin it. I think most fans here wanted so badly for Virtanen to be a top six player. he's versatile though. like Hansen. but with a ton more skill.
