Carl's Jn
"I've never thought about being a Vancouver Canuck. It is what it is." DeNiro
he explained that its not an insult to the canucks but just that he thought he would be drafted higher... Amazing how much criticism these 17 and 18 year old kids get, as if they're supposed to be able to say all the right things the media. There's veteran NHLers that still say the "wrong" things to the media all the time. These guys haven't been coached in what to say or how to act in front of cameras. The kid just got drafted into the NHL, I'm sure he's still in shock. Give him a break.

Look at Brenden Lemieux : http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=724419 The guy slid out of the first round and he was choked to have slipped out but look how he answered his questions, he actually still looked stoked to be drafted. What would McCann have preferred he slid even further? He should have been smiling and happy to get picked by a good team and rather at 24 then at 25+. Just upsets me when Scherbak is picked right after and the guy is ecstatic, glowing with positivity and energy. I still would have preferred picking Scherbak, but McCann was a smart pick and I hope he has a great year developing as an adult and a hockey player. DeNiro
Would you guys rank McCann higher than Horvat interms of skill/hockey IQ? Hockey IQ I would rank Horvat higher. In terms of skill, I would give it to McCann. The guys shot is absolutely unreal, as is his ability to get past the D and drive the net.

The thing is, that's just his personality though. The guy is Mr.Serious, not unlike Toews. Him being unenthusiastic like that is just him being himself I think. It may explain why teams passed on him. But it's definitely not a testament to his potential. The fact that him slipping like that actually made him mad is a good thing IMO. The guy is all business. It's just more fuel for him to prove his doubters wrong.

Shouldn't of went in the first round while Mccann was ranked to go around 15th overall

There is certainly an undercurrent of leadership and grit in the picks and acquisitions that the new regime is accumulating.

BanTSN
You know that? Prob. not. But his interviews and demeanour in them are Toews-like. McCann's maturity isn't quite there though imho.

R3aL
Don't think Lemieux really slipped. Shouldn't of went in the first round while Mccann was ranked to go around 15th overall The fact is he thought he slipped so it's the same thing, especially since the team his pops played for passed on him musta burned, and McCann slipped quite a bit he was slipping near the end of the season then during playoffs as others boosted their stock, then his perormance at u18 he went from as high as 10-->18 on lots of rankings most had him around 12 untill te end of the season
CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Its quite funny how CDC is already poking and questioning McCann's character and personality when he has only been a Canuck for a few weeks. 1) We always jump to conclusions when really everyone here on this board knows next to nothing about what actually goes on in hockey 2) questioning his character based off a misinterpreted reaction and comment 3) Linking all the events of his Junior playoff performance, U18 performance, and character as the reason why he slipped when really no one knows and are making preconceived notions and trying to pass it off as factual information. WeddingCrashers
I also think he has a higher offensive potential than Horvat. Lucky to have both of these guys down the middle.

Jeesh lets give the kid a chance to show his true colours. McCann unlike most prospects already has a 200 ft game, great wheels and now a chip on his shoulders to show every team that passed on him what they missed out on. Biggest concern for me was more about having enough size and strength to contend with NHLers. After watching his interview with his parents and seeing the size of his old man I'm inclined to think Jared has a little more growth coming. Virtanen and McCann make me feel like we just drafted D.Brown and J.Williams. The cooler Canuck version....I'm stoked.
MoneypuckOverlord
Would you guys rank McCann higher than Horvat interms of skill/hockey IQ? Overall skill set goes to Mcann Hockey iq is tough. Scouting reports say McCann has a very high hockey iq, and he "makes other players around him better." that speaks a lot. But overall I think Horvat in the end is the better hockey player, and much more higher rate of success. Some say he was rated as high as 4th on some teams ranking. Anyways. excited to have both. McCann again was the guy I actually wanted, back when we were hovering around the 10, 11, 12 draft position. It came down to him, or Haydn Fleury as the guys I wanted. He has raving reviews from his fans. Prob. not. But his interviews and demeanour in them are Toews-like. McCann's maturity isn't quite there though imho. He's just 17 years old man... give it a break...... when I was 17 I applied at PNE with Khakis a Polo sweater and my resume in my pocket... at this point a totally different person then I was back then... stuff like this happens. some kids mature faster or slower. Derp...
Hey how bout your first live interview on international television right after the biggest moment of your life that defines your future for the next 5 odd years or more even. "It is what it is" is a remarkably cool and calm reaction to such events. I would have probably gone But that's why I'm not a future NHL star.
