timberz21
  Everyone is talking how much offensive talent/potential he has, but if so why hasn't it shown in his numbers in juniors?  He actually has similar junior numbers as Ryan Getzlaf. But junior stats doesn't really mean anything, except for the Crosby, Tavares, McDavid kind of player who are well over 2PPG before their draft year, you know they are exceptionnal. Most of the other first rounder are usually at 1.25PPG to 1.75PPG after their draft year (or 2PPG like Domi as a 19/20 year old). McCann is in that range, so there is no telling what's his ceiling/potential is, until he actually makes it in the leagues. He could as well be a Getzlaf or a Brulé. It's not what you have done in junior that matters is how you continue to evolve/adapt to the NHL.

I have pretty high confidence in McCann and I think he has top 6 center potential but Getzlaf played in the WHL and isn't the WHL a lower scoring league than the OHL?. McCann has still shown improved though compared to last season scoring the same amount of points in 17 less games is no small thing.
SamJamIam
1 goal 1 assist tonight, he's clearly having a much more impressive season then Jake. all things considered, Calgary HItmen is also a power house in the WHL. Looks like we might have another outstanding 2 way centerman. McCann Horvat 1/2 punch? sounds awesome. Jared is also on a memorial cup quality team. Jake is not. Jake has been in the top 3 for WHL P/60 all season. I think it's safe to say they're both doing very well despite less-than-ideal deployment and health issues. CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Has surpassed his Point totals from the previous season and took him 17 less games to do it. Also was out for the first month? Pretty impressed by McCann's ability to make the best out of his situation and may not even fully recovered yet from Mono.
Derp...
Not a lot of players score goal like McCann does that's why it's so exciting. He's a good 2 way guy who can rip it off the rush or make the good pass. Not unlike Kesler, and he also is sound Defensively. He projects as a solid NHL forward who can help you win, and we need those guys.

McCann's comes far more naturally. He could be a naturally more offensively gifted Kesler if he continues his current trajectory. That's pretty exciting IMO. Fanuck
Will be interesting to see what McCann and the rest of the Hounds do tonight vs the worst team in the entire CHL - the Wolves. The Generals destroyed the Wolves the other night and the Hounds are an even higher scoring team overall than the Generals.
stexx
so jake is excused? because his team is not good enough? (FYI they won 10 of their past 11 games) please kindly answer. it has been pretty well documented and easy to see just from their lineup that they dont have a great playmaking centre. Wingers are reliant on their centre to get them the puck in good areas. For example there is a reason why a player like Nail Yakupov has taken off since Derek roy arrived in Edmonton he finally has a centre to get him the puck in areas where he can create offense. The hitmens top centre is adam tambellini who has never been an offensively gifted player much more along the lines of shawn matthias than ryan getzlaf. Tambo is scoring goals at a much higher rate than his assists (4ogoals 28assists) A lot of this season jake has played with karnaukov or however you spell his name so he doesnt even get topline minutes. He played about 2 weeks with tambo straight and they put up some ridiculous totals but they had no secondary scoring so they moved them apart again. and he isnt "excused" for coming off a major injury and the team circumstances being over PPG as a power winger who plays the game the way he does is a pretty decent year. SamJamIam
so jake is excused? because his team is not good enough? (FYI they won 10 of their past 11 games) please kindly answer. Jake leads the league in points/60. He doesn't need an excuse. The problem is that you think junior leagues are directly comparable. Jake's leading the dub with 4.2 p/60. The leaders of the OHL are at the 6 mark, and the Q leaders are at around 8. The point is that they have different deployment, different TOIs, in different leagues (and yes, with different quality teammates, if you don't acknowledge this, you know nothing about junior) and different roles. Then they have to live in Sudbury. Poor kids.
