Derp...
Not a good team they played tonight, but nice to see him get on the scoreboard when he should be on the board. Moved into top 15 in scoring (OHL) and now sits only 1 point back of Cole Cassels, but has played 5 more games
MoneypuckOverlord
Everyone is talking how much offensive talent/potential he has, but if so why hasn't it shown in his numbers in juniors? Some said he was too focused playing defensively.
BanTSN
Jake leads the league in points/60. He doesn't need an excuse. The problem is that you think junior leagues are directly comparable. Jake's leading the dub with 4.2 p/60. The leaders of the OHL are at the 6 mark, and the Q leaders are at around 8. The point is that they have different deployment, different TOIs, in different leagues (and yes, with different quality teammates, if you don't acknowledge this, you know nothing about junior) and different roles. This deserves more than one plus.
LaBamba
McCann is a perfect example of a player you can obtain with superior scouting. No tanking required. I'm not saying he is a generational talent, but I will say he is probably the biggest surprise from round 1 so far, great pick.

He definitely could go that way as in my eyes, he and Horvat are the only ones that are capable of being our future 1st line centers.

Let's just see how it goes. Horvat right now looks like he's projecting into a beastly 2nd line centre and McCann is still in junior, so I think pegging them into those roles already is setting the bar a bit high. I'm not saying he is a generational talent, but I will say he is probably the biggest surprise from round 1 so far, great pick. McCann was a good pick. But I think there was general surprise that he was still available at #24. And if the Canucks had not taken him it is very likely he would gone to the next team (Boston). I think Benning is great with the scouts, but I don't think this pick was due to superior scouting, I think it was result of a good trade that included the #24 pick (for Kesler) and good luck (that McCann did not go earlier). Central Scouting had McCann at #10 among North American skaters (which probably makes about #14 or #15 overall and Bob McKenzie had him at #16) And I don't pretend to have any inside knowledge, but just from reading what the scouts said I was one of several people who posted the opinion that in 3 or 4 years McCann could be the best player involved in the Kesler trade -- and still on the Canucks on a low cap hit when Kesler would have been long gone as free agent if the Canucks had not traded him. Anyway, Horvat, Virtanen, and McCann are a good base for the prospect pool. And Cassels could be good too. We just another high end pick or two this year. sting
I was super bullish on McCann. Wanted him @10 when we were there. Was hoping the Kesler trade would give us the 10 pick so we could pick him and imagine that we got him at 24. Pretty hilarious...i was fist pumping in the car when i heard the call. Seeing the size of his old man on draft day added more and know hes taking his game to the next level. Noice.

I knew he was the Bpa but I was so high on scherbak, well I still am, and I wanted him so badly. Then when you compare there draft selection reaction.. I am really happy with McCann though. Kid is going to be a gamer, and he sure slid to us at 24, very lucky.

I wanted Scherbak over McCann. McCann looks good though. He will definitely need another year in junior and at least half a season in the AHL. Off_The_Schneid!
Looking back at the draft the two picked ahead of McCann that stand out Connor bleackley: red deer rebels 49pts in 50g Picked 23rd Colorado Nick schmaltz : playing college so it's kind of difficult to judge. Stats aren't fantastic Picked 20th by chicago Because of those two picks McCann fell to us and it couldn't have worked out better (Not saying the two aren't playing well, bleackley has quite a few goals playing on the whl and schmaltz is a big body with decent college numbers)

My comment isn't so much directed at you specifically, as Scherbak's interview with Duthie was phenomenal and can easily be contrasted with McCann. However, if your comment is directed at McCann's "It is what it is" quote.... Overly sensitive, or wilfully blind? His comment that created controversy was in response to a question about dropping in the draft. He expected to go higher, but it is what it is. People who believe that the comment reflected on his opinion of the Canucks must be the same people who read the tabloids. There was absolutely no prior behavior/comments by McCann that would have lead to the conclusion that he had something against the Canucks. In fact, he likely paid close attention to them given he liked Kesler.
Jiggs50
Hate on Boston all you want, but I love the fact that Benning is building a similar team here in Van. McCann and Horvat are our Krejci and Bergeron! So damn excited!!!!!

One thing that is in Vcr future is I think the plan is to be a hard team to play against

Fred65
  In Russia?  I wouldn't hang my hat on NIKITA TRYAMKIN, he can't crack the AVTOMOBILIST (KHL) line uoon a regular basis and his ice time is pretty limited from every thing I've read

One thing that is in Vcr future is I think the plan is to be a hard team to play against Having a similar model doesn't make you the same team. Every team will have different players with different talents and different chemistry. Teams are dynamic and forever changing so its impossible to simply replicate a team. Also, you don't need a Chara to win the cup, hell, you don't even need a great goalie to win a cup, your team just needs to compete hard every game, and be resilient when injuries start to pile up.
