Well I guess I won't be opening this thread back up for awhile. People are actually starting to agree with Desi and Alf. Too many chicken little tards are ruining the exchange of information and actual discussion. I really only come to these forums for information and highlights the like of Stierlitz and WTG provide, but it's an endless sea of out-to-lunchers to wade through these days.

Couldn't agree more. The Prospects forum is becoming quite a chore to read, as I've been having to scroll through a bunch of garbage posts to get to some real insightful comments these past few weeks.

I think we know who's to blame for that...

He makes his intent known.  He either signs or he gets traded in a package for someone we need and Benning signs Jackson Whistle out of Kelowna...not a serious issue guys calm down.

Unless of course you all missed where he said he'd wait a week before figuring out what he wanted to do

@rectangle234 I proudly support friends and teammates that aren't in the Canucks organization.

Well this is getting awkward.

I really hope the kid doesn't walk, but nothing I've seen in the last few weeks seems to indicate he's inclined to sign here.

Hopefully Benning can get something for the asset in the event that he decides to finish out his senior year.

If it becomes obvious he's going to exploit the loophole, does he hold any value as a tradeable asset?

Would be interesting if he did bolt. Wouldn't make any sense for him whatsoever though. There's very few teams out there that have a bigger need for him than Vancouver.

It's possible that he has enough confidence in himself that he could out duel someone for a spot on another team.

If he elects for another year of college, we should resign ourselves to the strong possibility that he will be on his way out. There are players that stay the full four years and sign with their team like Jankowski this year or Paliotta least year. The majority of these prospects though can't resist the temptation to test the market.

I am still not worried though. Benning needs to be in there providing incentives to Demko. He should be guaranteeing him that he will get his 10 starts next year so he can burn a year of his ELC. Anything and everything should be done to get Thatcher to sign.

This would be a rookie mistake by any GM. You don't guarentee a prospect 10 games for the heck of it.

If he is leaning towards returning to college then I do whatever it takes to get him in the fold. It's quite likely that one of Markstrom or Miller will spend some time on IR anyway. Don't care about a year of his ELC nor do I care about the precedent. Canucks can't possibly let a prospect like Demko walk based on some silly notions of principles.

Make him the absolute best offer and some promises along with it. If he doesn't sign then you don't have any regrets as it was never meant to be.

That idea is beyond rational.

A it could cost us a playoff spot

B it could severely hurt his development and confidence which is everything for a goalie

C it will upset the team AND our goalies

D it could cost mangement their jobs

There is literally no way you could rationalize that, it makes no sense. There aren't many teams in the league that have the track record that Vancouver has recently and that has a job waiting for him in 1-2 years
