The conditioning has paid dividents. It's apparent that Train isn't the reason we've been losing and his play has been fine, not stellar, but just fine. I would really like to see Lidster help him with two things: 1. His first pass out of his zone hasn't been great. He's chucking it up the boards a lot and also just throwing the puck at his forwards with little regard to what type of pass it is and/or whether or not his outlet target is covered (or about to be covered instantly). 2. He gets twitchy when put under pressure by the forecheck and that's what everyone says about the NHL - no other league in the world has the level and intensity of constant pressure being applied in all zones in all areas of the ice - there simply is no time out there. Train is clearly not used to the forecheck pressure - Lidster needs to help him out with this and 100% of the time the answer is to always keep it simple. Take the first open/safe pass out of the zone and don't get fancy or creative. Don't get me wrong, I was expecting a disaster out there with Willy keeping him out of the line-up so long but he's really way ahead of where management was indicating imo. I heard Tryamkin played 20+ minutes against the Leafs, and was a plus 1. Maybe we should be letting more young guys play bigger roles?

Boudrias
I believe that Larsen or Sbisa at 26 years old was the oldest d-man playing against the Laffers.

I am not suggesting that he did not show well but not solid. He was drifting all over the ice in TO. Thought his game against the Sens was better. My take on how he has been handled to date is positive. Get in shape and you can play. Tried to send him to Utica for conditioning and he refused. That could be because he saw more value in the gym and ice practice. If Tryamkin can play 6D regularly his season will be a success. I like the idea of a Tryamkin-Sbisa pairing right now. If Edler is back pair him with Stecher and drop Hutton-EG back to the 2nd pairing. I wanted to see Larsen with 40 games but he will have to do better to stay. Stecher will have to go back to Utica. The goal tending and the Van d-core are the positives out of this season to date. The forward group are struggling. Hansen is now on IR. Without doubt the best Canuck skater season to date. The Twins are not leading this group and there is legit questions whether their approach to the game should dominate the direction of how this team plays the game. Their style of game has dominated their team mates approach to the game for years. Legit Hall of Famers but their time in Van is winding down. Sutter-Horvat-Erickson-Hanson have to provide alternative leadership to lighten the load on the Twins. I'm not saying they weren't monitoring him. I'm saying they weren't able to evaluate how well he could play if he was inserted into the lineup. Maybe it looked like he was drifting all over the ice, because he played both the right and left sides, PK and took the puck up ice on the rush. He wasn't afraid to shoot the puck either. All in all a good effort and he surely has passed Larsen for a spot in the top 6 along with Stetcher. I can understand wanting to get an extended look at Larsen, but I didn't think it should have taken as long as it did to get #88 in the lineup. It's time to take the kid gloves off and stop sheltering the young players so much. If there was anything learned from this season so far, it should be that young players can play if you give them a chance. It's a league wide phenomenon this year and it's time for the Canucks to start playing along.
smokes
I'm still wondering why a tough guy like Martin went after Stecher instead of Tryamkin. Both are rookies. "scratching head"

As a rule I agree with more ice for the younger players. I also think the 2nd PP unit should get more TOI as they appear dangerous each time out. "scratching head" That would have been funny. Martin would have got a bashing of his face in. Tryamkin probably has giant sized fists. He most likely hits like a sledge hammer. "scratching head" Pretty sure from a selfish standpoint, Martin wanted out of the game asap and didn't want to answer to Gudbranson ... But instead of just playing hockey with the lead, he opted to "punk" out like Reilly and Kadri did. I think the Leafs play the Kings tonight.. I'm on night shift.. But that might be a game to watch,. No team will allow punks to thrive and perform in this league,. Hope Doughtey catches Kadri with his head down,. With or without the puck. I also hope Carter pastes the boards with Reilly butter. The "boy hood" is over for those two,. they will have to "man" up the rest of the year. Martin has his work cut out for failure.. and quite possibly the "love in" with the Leaf rookie squad is over.
Hairy Kneel
I loved it when he was shoving Grabner out of the crease. That crap ain't gonna fly while he's around. I liked also how he finished his checks esp on Miller who killed us last time. Took away his freight train momentum coming into our zone. and one moment of being face to face with Nash and they just stared eye to eye letting him know he was there. I find Tryamkin kinda fascinating. He seems to be marching to his own version of what his game is. Lidster tried to talk to him after he got caught on a play and Tryamkin didn't really pay much attention. That could be language but it seems not. What I am starting to see with Tryamkin is a offensive upside. He drove a puck off the point last night that nearly knocked the leg out from under a Ranger d-man. Have not heard what the mph is off his shot? Obviously very heavy! One can only wonder where this kid will be after 20 games. IMHO he has the largest upside in the d-core.
