Gustav Forsling | D

This was a post/ prediction I made at the draft this year so I've kind of locked in what I would have done this year. Six months down the track maybe I would now like to keep Vey, I like his potential. But was happy with the Forsling pick and still stand by that.

As for previous years I don't have anything on record.

Was hoping someone would put together a thread like this. This will allow a few of us fans a little redemption when we refer back to our choices. I'll have a stab here and in a few years I hope I am bang on for my choices.

6th = Ehlers ( size is an issue but I like the potential)

24th= McCann ( I think this is a very good pick)

36th= McKeown

50th= Dougherty ( would not have made the trade for Vey)

66th= Glover

126th= Forsling ( I'm happy with this pick)

156th= Mathew Mistele

186th= Edgars Kulda

Well it's locked in and I am looking forward to seeing how these prospects progress.

I don't have any proof, you'll have to take my word for it. Or not. (I don't think anyone there will, considering how many people whine at me every time I make a single post)

I'll prove it to you in June.

Would have been nice to see you pull that one.

No worries.

everyone passed on Aho, you can't honestly tell me at the draft you knew anything about a 5'9" swedish player who scored 5 points in 21 games in the SHL and was -1...

Kase is another midget at 5'10 and had 7 points in 37 games in the Czech top league last year... he also no longer plays in the top czech league and is now in Czech 2. there is no indication he has a better chance than either of our picks

Tkachev, another tiny 5'9" player who went completely un-drafted was the center of one of mactavish's screwups when he tried to sign him in the offseason and was informed by nearly everyone, including the NHL, that he was not eligible to be signed. while he's doing better than Petit and stewart right now, he's going to have a serious uphill battle trying to make the NHL and he's just as much of a long shot as they are.

Hicketts is the smallest one of all at 5'8" and was completely passed on by everyone as well... his chances at making the big leagues, or any professional league in NA, as a d-man is less than anyone mentioned in this thread.

Tyson Baillie probably has the best shot, but no-one grabbed him and there's got to be a reason for that. we'll see if anyone takes a gamble on him next draft. but you can't tell me you knew anything about him on draft day either.

Whatever about the other guys, I can't believe that no GM was willing to throw a 7th round pick at Baillie. Character issues or whatever else should definitely be taken into account when it comes to the top 3 to 5 rounds, but in the 7th round it's worth the risk.

Big game for Sweden tomorrow against Finland. Hope Gustav the great ups his game to the next level, and gets them going at 5v5 as well as on the PP.

If he was doing this next year in the WJC and hadn't even made it this year we would be stoked. Just bonus that he's doing it in his post draft year.

Craig Button called Forsling the best D-man in the preliminary round of the tournament.

He put him on the first all star team for group B, and Demko was on the first all star team for group A.

if that came from buttons mouth its actually an insult.

that guy had virtanen ranked 40th or something

43rd to be exact. That's why whenever he talks I instantly mute my T.V for the time being.

He said the ranking was on how Virtanen would turn out in the NHL. He apparently thinks he'll be the 43 best player in the 2014 draft.

So far:

  • Tied for team lead in goals (2) and points (4) with four forwards
  • Tied for tournament lead in points by defenseman (4) with CAN's Madison Bowey
  • Leads all defensemen in tournament in goals (2)

All as an 18-year-old

I wonder who'll have more points by the end of the tournament - Jake or Gustav?

I think Forsling has 6 points. 2 goals 4 assists
