[proposal](not really) Mike Ribeiro

Recommended Posts

He's older but not as old as Iginla and people wanted him. Granted Riberio is no Iginla.

Getting to the point though, would anyone sign him here, maybe for a year to test it out?

He's been an above 50 point player for the past 10 years, with the exception of last two years @ 47 &49 points. Not saying I'd like to see him signed but he could be our Seguin(party animal that straightens out after being moved). Desjardins is also a familiar face and Ribeiro's stats in DAL are impressive, granted he was much younger. I doubt we'd sign him even for league minimum considering the crap storm that would surround our new management but there are some compelling arguments.

A lot of people are mentioning Vrbata, personally between the two, I'd rather sign Vrbata mainly because he's bigger than Ribeiro and almost a year younger. That being said, Vrbata only scored 4 more goals than Ribeiro, had the same amount of assists in the same amount of GP. If a distracted, unmotivated Ribeiro can play almost as well as Vrbata, would it be worth taking a gamble trying to get him motivated, focused, and turned around? He'll be quite a bit cheaper than Vrbata. Seguin went from good to all-star, could this guy go from decent to great?

Flame on...lol

Apparently Riberio has some "off-ice problems" and that's y he got bought out by a team w/ loads of cap space. He has too many issues and that can hinder his on ice performance.

As far as Vrbata goes, he's pretty good and put up 51 points last year on a bad team, but he's 33 and I'd rather let a prospect or young guy (Jensen, Kassian) play w/ them.

I don't really agree, with his top-end setup skills I think if you pair him with one of our two-way guys like Burrows, Higgins or Bonino who work their butts off to get the puck and who can also score then the grinders on the team could actually start producing more. At the very least, if he doesn't pan out after we give him a show-me contract (like 1 year, $2.5 M) then we can just cut him loose, but he can be a high-reward player if he learns what he needs to do after his poor showing in Phoenix.

Exactly, like I said, he could be our Seguin. Boston got rid of seguin partly on account of his partying that made him unfocused and seemingly not dedicated. His move to Dallas put a damper on his partying, he was given a great opportunity and he used it to have a break out year.

Now especially w/ Vrbata being signed theres no room for this guy, I suppose that makes this a [discussion] rather than a [proposal]. Eitherway, it'd be a bit of a gamble signing him over Vrbata but a show me contract may have worked out well for us if he came up here, got his crap together, and had a good year.

Perhaps if Vrbata has a great year with the Sedins he'll be a very tradeable asset with 1 year 5 mil left after this season, and he'll get great return after posting good numbers. I think JB looks ahead at things like this and definitely has plans for the future. Wish i werea fly on his wall.

You do realize that 49 pt season was the short season, so he put up 49 pts in 48 games.

The guy is skilled but if a team is going to buy him out over his behavioural issues and he hasnt been signed yet he must be just awful in the locker room. Benning wants meat and potatoes, the last thing in the world he would do is risk neg affecting our culture he is working so hard at creating.

He woulda been wise to stay in washington, he was a nice fit there.
