[Signing] Blue Jackets re-sign Corey Tropp

Former Buffalo forward played well after getting scooped off waivers last season:

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Corey Tropp to a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 National Hockey League season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, further terms were not disclosed.

Tropp, 24, appeared in 44 games with the Blue Jackets last season, recording two goals, eight assists, 10 points, 37 penalty minutes and a team-high +11 plus/minus rating. He also tallied 0-1-1 in nine games played with Buffalo prior to being claimed by Columbus off of waivers on November 28.

Selected by the Sabres in the third round, 89th overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft, Tropp has registered 5-14-19, 57 PIM, +3 in 87 career NHL games with Buffalo and Columbus. He has also recorded 21-45-66 in 109 career AHL games with the Portland Pirates and Rochester Americans.

A native of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, Tropp spent three seasons at Michigan State University prior to turning pro, amassing 29-41-70 and 111 PIM in 100 games played for the Spartans from 2007-10. He was named a Second Team CCHA All-Star in 2009-10 after leading MSU in scoring with 20-22-42 in 37 games.
