Winnipeg Won't Win With Guys Like Kane and Byfuglien

Recommended Posts

I think WGP is building their team kinda ass backwards, first you need to establish a culture of hardworking standup guys who are proud just as much of their defensive effort as much as their offence. Once you establish that and have enough difference makers who play the right way you can afford to have a few guys who aren't alway fully committed. That's why I think Buf was able to have an impact in CHI but is detriment to the the progress of WPG.

The deal with Evander Kane is more dicey, in a lot of ways he is similar to Patrick Kane, he made some questionable choices as a youngster, but Patrick figured it out. Evander has all the skill to be even better than Patrick, but he doesn't have enough players around him who get it to apply some peer pressure to keep him focused.

I don't think evander had the skill to be better than Patrick. And I also don't think patrick is all that mature. He's just scoring and winning right now. When you score and win you can do whatever you want. Its when you start losing and not scoring people have an issue with your life outside of hockey.

All that Kane needs is a pass first type playmaker. And Dustin Byfuglien needs a tough, defensive defenseman type partner. Then watch out for Winnipeg in the up-coming years.

Those are two pretty big holes that are not easy to fix.

Chances of them getting one is extremely unlikely let alone both.

Yeah, both of these players would do themselves a favor by getting out of Winnipeg. But I like Kane's game a lot. And Byfuglien is a chunk but he has his name on the Cup (and he was one of the primary reasons the Blackhawks won that year - his series against Vancouver was unreal. He humiliated Luongo). Winnipeg needs to figure out if they want him to play wing or defense though.

I wonder If BK wakes up in the morning and an alarm goes off..." Must post thread on CDC". Then he realizes... "I have nothing to right about".... Meh.. " I'll just make up some nonsense and pass it off as adding something to the conversation"

What Winnipeg/Edmonton/Calgary need to do is draft the best talent they can find from the WHL. And maybe kids from small towns in the OHL and QMJHL. Kids that have excellent talent, but are used to smaller cities so that they aren't so anxious to bolt long term.

They need talent, character, and a winning attitude.

What I like about Vancouver is we're not picking up executives that are Ex-Canucks, just because they are Ex-Canucks. They are picking up the best people we can find.

If Edmonton can divest itself from Ex-Oilers, who's only experience is they are Ex-Oilers, they will be a lot better served.

Calgary is on the right track with hiring a GM from outside of the organization to get a fresh set of eyes.

Winnipeg is saddled by the fact that the organization in Atlanta was horrible so they have basically needed to start with a clean sheet.

Vancouver has been stuck with the fact that it's GM's that actually knew hockey never stuck around long enough to improve the team. Bud Poile was only here 3 years, Jake Milford was only GM for 4 years, It wasn't until Pat Quinn took over we had a GM that had a long tenure and changed the culture of our hockey team from a punchline, to a legitimate contender.

Benning I think will do well provided we give him the time to assemble the kind of team he wants, and the fans and ownership aren't impatient.

honestly, what direction is the team going?

they're kinda one of those teams stuck in limbo since the atlanta days. it's still gonna be a while for them to go anywhere since they have to build through the draft. winnipeg isn't exactly a prime destination for free agents. they showed some promise under maurice
