Baka
I don't see an issue with it. It's not like he was wrecking good situations. 30 year old player. He wasn't sticking around for a Buffalo rebuild (normal action for a pending UFA older player to get traded). He had a good thing with Tavares in New York but again a non playoff team that struggles to attract talent to Long Island (even though Vanek had a new team why stay if the new team is just as much a mess as the old?). And Montreal of course. A legit playoff team in a good city but he wasn't fitting in. He played streaky hockey and come playoff time his ice time was lousy only averaging 14:53 a game when most teams top line players would see extra ice in such a scenario. In the series they were eliminated he was barely getting 11 minutes a game and had less than 9 minutes in 1 game (so really why would he want to resign to get more of the same?). I would say it was more an unlikely sequence of events, not a character issue.
Hunter_74
The only player I can think of is Jaroslav Halak; traded from the Blues to the Sabres, then to the Capitals, and finally resigned with the Islanders in the offseason.
