Monty
I think those are good calculated risks that make sense - but if they were exempt and their contracts could be terminated if they don't wind up in the NHL, the implication would create a mess (and a huge workload for Nail and agents), with GMs signing all the talent in Europe to gain potential rights without consequence. My interest was in a young player/prospect (Nakyva) - who can't be drafted - with the grey area being whether they can be assigned to the AHL (as irl). The point was moot as Nail beat me to the punch regardless - but I think it makes sense that their cap hit applies regardless, otherwise in a league with no minor's cap, there is also no consequence to a signing like that (additionally so if not subject to waivers). Agreed. Otherwise, what's stopping someone from throwing out an absurd amount of money if there are no repercussions.

Nail
Sorry, just reading through the last few posts, and to answer the question: If a player is signed out of North America, they are eligible for contract terminations if they sign overseas. If a player is signed out of Europe, they aren't eligible for contract terminations if they sign overseas. But, in both cases, if the player retires, they are eligible for contract terminations (as long as it isn't a 35+ contract)

JimLahey
We have a trade to annouce... To PIT: Semyon Varlamov, Hudson Fasching, NYI 2016 3rd Round Pick To NYI: Nick Shore, Tyler Graovac, Stuart Percy, OTT 2015 2nd Round Pick, PIT 2015 3rd Round Pick We have a trade to announce... To PIT: Casey Cizikas, Marko Dano, Michael Bournival To NSH: Zach Bogosian, Johan Larsson, PIT 2016 2nd Round Pick Very pleased with these deals, thanks to lethunder & the tandem of oldnews & SwedeHockey in the negotiations. Although we gave up many assets for the future, the addition of help now with Varlamov & Cizikas will bode well with the current roster & the future is looking good as well with the addition of promising young prospects in Dano, Bournival & Fasching. With these moves, the roster is looking better but there is still room for improvement... Chris Kreider - Derek Stepan - Mark Stone Mikael Granlund - Frans Nielsen - Craig Smith PA Parenteau - Patrik Berglund - Casey Cizikas Taylor Beck - Tuomo Ruutu - Teemu Pulkinnen Michael Bournival Ryan Suter - Justin Faulk Olli Maatta - Alec Martinez Morgan Rielly - Dmitry Orlov Paul Postma, Tim Erixon Semyon Varlamov / Reto Berra Our needs look to be an upgrade for our bottom six forwards, back-up goaltender & another top six winger would be welcomed. Nail
Here it is folks, the nominees for the GM of the Year. I'd like to let you guys know of a few things first, so here they are: 1) Picking from the nominees, all GM's are to send myself a PM titled "GM of the Year Voting" with their top 3 choices listed in order from 1 to 3. 2) The number 1 choice for each GM gets 5 points, number 2 choice gets 3 points, and number 3 choice gets 1 point. The GM with the most points at the end of all the voting wins. 3) Please don't vote for yourself (looking at you JE) 4) I will not read any of the PM's until the date where I announce the winner, therefore nobody will be notified of who may be in the lead until the final tabulations (unless you guys tell each other who you voted lol) 5) There are lots of great GM's in this league, but I had to narrow this great group to only 9 nominees. If you weren't nominated, please don't take any offence as I tried my best to pick the top 9 nominees 6) I may not have posted all of the great moves each nominee has made, so if you remember another significant move that the specific GM made, please keep that in mind when voting. Some of the trades I posted were larger trades, but I kind of shortened down into the larger parts of the deal (which is why the trades may seem smaller than they actually were) 7) As soon as we have all 30 GM's vote, I'll count the votes and announce the winner (consider this as an activity check ) HERE ARE THE NOMINEES (in alphabetical order): GM AriGold (Philadelphia Flyers) The Lowdown: 12th place finish in 2014 -> 6th place finish in 2015 3rd Round Exit in 2015 Playoffs Why to Vote Him: Acquired Filip Forsberg for Jarome Iginla and Kevan Miller Acquired Joel Ward for Jeremy Morin Traded Kris Versteeg for Alec Martinez GM Buddhas Hand (Vancouver Canucks) The Lowdown: Took over the 23rd placed team in 2014 -> 5th place finish in 2015 2nd Round Exit in 2015 Playoffs Why to Vote Him: Acquired Kris Versteeg for a 3rd Round Pick Signed Steve Downie as a free agent Signed John Klingberg as a free agent GM Drouin (Winnipeg Jets) The Lowdown: 1st place finish in 2014 -> 9th place finish in 2015 Currently in Stanley Cup Finals Why to Vote Him: Acquired Nikita Kucherov for Scott Hartnell Acquired Zdeno Chara and Jesper Fast for Alex Killorn and Morgan Klimchuk GM JE14 (Boston Bruins) The Lowdown: 15th place finish in 2014 -> 1st place finish in 2015 2nd Round Exit in 2015 Playoffs Why to Vote Him: Acquired Jonathan Quick for Jimmy Howard and average prospects Acquired Corey Perry for Brandon Dubinsky, Derek Roy and other spare parts Acquired Hampus Lindholm for Eric Gelinas GM Jim Lahey (Pittsburgh Penguins) The Lowdown: 27th place finish in 2014 -> 13th place finish in 2015 1st Round Exit in 2015 Playoffs Why to Vote Him: Acquired Mikael Granlund and Olli Maata for Mike Ribeiro and Marcus Johansson Acquired Alex Tuch for Teddy Purcell Acquired Semyon Varlamov for Nick Shore and Stuart Percy GM Mike Vanderhoek (Calgary Flames) The Lowdown: Took over the 25th placed team in 2014 -> 4th place finish in 2015 1st Round Exit in 2015 Playoffs Why to Vote Him: Acquired Mike Green for Mark Jankowski and 23rd overall in this years draft Acquired Tomas Plekanec for Scott Harrington Drafted David Pastrnak 35th overall in the 2014 Entry Draft GM Nail (Tampa Bay Lightning) (I feel real scummy for doing this) The Lowdown: 16th place finish in 2014 -> 8th place finish in 2015 Currently in Stanley Cup Finals Why to Vote Him: Acquired Tobias Enstrom for Jakub Kindl and a 2nd Round Pick Signed Ryan Callahan, Scott Darling and Ronalds Kenins as free agents Traded Stephen Weiss for Shayne Gostisbehere GM Sidney Crosby.
